Nobody loves the space stuff like me. I watched Apollo 11 live. I have to ask though. Why keep a labor intensive, expensive craft in service when private industry can launch satellites faster and cheaper than gov’t? Why go back to the moon? What’s there? Mars, nothing of much interest it’s dead. There comes a time when we have to sacrifice something and sadly, manned space flight needs to be one of those things at this point in time.

No, he's trying to preserve his precious self-image as an astronaut.

He knows that there is no longer any such thing as an astronaut, as soon as this last shuttle is over.

We'll just be passengers for the Russians. There will be cosmonauts, but no astronauts.

That's what really crushes the old pilots.

Why go back to the moon? What’s there?

Helium-3

Shall we just let the Chinese have it?

NASA's budget is less than one half of one percent of the total federal budget. About $20 billion. Cut that much out by disbanding either the Departments of Education or Energy (preferably both.)

Mars, nothing of much interest it’s dead.

Why go to White Sands, New Mexico? It's dead.

Why go to Bonneville? It's dead too.

But gee whiz...a whole lotta important events go on there, no?

Just another stupid RAT who doesn't want to be blamed for the communist nightmare they've brought about in the USA.

Former Sen. John Glenn, D-Ohio, spent part of his Sunday afternoon stumping for Sen. Barack Obama’s space agenda. On a conference call with reporters, Glenn backed Obama’s plans for NASA, saying Obama’s plans represent a reversal from funding cuts during the Bush administration. “I’m looking forward to working very closely with Barack Obama after he’s president,” said Glenn.... - August 17, 2008

No study of the Earth can be complete without a proper study of the Moon.

The man sold his soul to BJ Clinton for one last ride into space on the Shuttle.

Glenn has very little credibility these days. The old man is hanging on to the last shreds for dear life!

John Glenn is from my county and IMHO is more of an old democrat. I’m not sure he’d be welcome in the Nancy Pelosi/Obama democratic parety?

“John Glenn: Keep space shuttles flying” Uhhh, Why? What has the “Space Shuttle” done but keep this country in Low Earth Orbit for the better part of 1/4 of a century. What “Scientific””Advances” has the Space Shuttle give us besides keeping that Money Pit of an “International Space Station” operational.

The shuttle is all we have for heavy lift to LEO. Atlas V-HLV hasn’t flown yet, and it may never fly.

The answer to your questions are obvious. We need to find a replacement for the shuttle, we need to go to the moon and to mars simply because they will serve as jumping off places for further space exploration. I would love to see private enterprise take a large part in space exploration, it is the American way for private enterprise to lead the way, however, they are not really doing so.

To keep the space program alive will lead to many new discoveries and technologies, just as it did in our glory days.
