I have this sick feeling they're going to try and ram this through with some "tricks" just like the healthcare "reform". They better not. I truly think this is the line in the sand we have to respond to. . or else. . .
Here is the language from the ballot:
PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 5165
"Shall the City of Fremont, Nebraska, enact proposed Ordinance No. 5165, amending the Fremont Municipal Code to prohibit the harboring of illegal aliens or hiring of unauthorized aliens, providing definitions, making provision for occupancy licenses, providing judicial process, repealing conflicting provisions, and establishing an effective date for this ordinance?
The greatest danger will come after the November election -- in a lame duck session.
Reid and Pelosi will almost certainly call one -- it being their "last chance".
If there is a GOP sweep in November, there will be a lot of Democrat Congressmen and Senators with "nothing to lose". Plus, a few Republicans with axes to grind -- Bennett (already a loser), McCain (either a winner or a loser, but no longer bound by competing in a primary) and, of course, his Robin -- Little Lindsay.
Be assured that Cap & Tax and Amnesty will both be on the agenda...
Here we go again, a few carefully leaked news posts, GOP saying something stupid and inconsequential, more news leaks and debates with talking heads until it starts to be accepted, then he’ll just do it, make them all legal with a stroke of his pen and the people won’t do anything about it because they were preconditioned.
The air of inevitability from the radical’s rulebook.
“passed.”
Put this on ballots — give people a chance to vote as to how they really feel — and my guess this will pass almost everywhere.
I said “almost”. Calfornia, New York, Massachusetts, and a few other places excluded, of course.
But the underlying seniments amongst ordinary (read: Euro) Americans for such restrictions on illegals are there — this ballot measure proves it.
These “restrictions” on illegals seem a lot like those that were implemented back east in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. Those measures were struck down in court (U.S. District Court, I presume). Not sure if the Hazleton case is stlll progressing upward through the appellate channels.
Perhaps if the Nebraska initiative is _also_ struck down by a different jurisdiction of the federal courts, it [alongside of the Hazleton restrictions] will eventually get bumped up to a hearing by the U.S. Supreme Court. The high court often waits until an issue has been adjudicated in more than one federal district before agreeing to accept it.
We need to get this addressed by the Supreme Court while we still have a working majority there. Our current majority may not last through Obama’s term (things happen).
Good job, Fremont!! Hopefully we get the entire state on board in the fall.
Now we onow why the left instituted all those boycotts. They were afraid of the Dominos falling.
Too late, the citizens are realizing they CAN do something about illegal immigration and they don't need the Feds to do it.
As a lifelong Fremonter I am proud that we passed this ordinance. I would have been posting on here, but I was covering the results for local radio stations.
The news today is that the ACLU will have an injunction in place within 48 hours. Our city council and city attorney appear prepared to let things die, as they have been very open regarding their opposition to the ordinance.
