Keep McChrystal
NY Post ^ | June 23, 2010 | Editorial

Will Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top US commander in Afghanistan, still have his job this afternoon, after today's all-but-certain dressing-down from President Obama?

"All options are on the table," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said yesterday.

There's no denying that Obama would be justified in relieving McChrystal of command as a result of intemperate remarks he and his top aides made to a reporter from Rolling Stone magazine.

But that would be a huge mistake.

McChrystal, to put it bluntly, is a great general who is uniquely suited to the demands of an unconventional war that -- sadly but obviously -- does not enjoy the full support of the president.

Let's be clear: Allowing any reporter -- let alone one from Rolling Stone -- the unfettered access to McChrystal and his staff that this one appears to have enjoyed was beyond dumb.

But there was no insubordination, and contrary allusions to Gen. Douglas MacArthur and President Harry Truman are as inapt as they are ahistorical.

Just last week, for example, Biden and Defense Secretary Robert Gates clashed sharply and publicly over troop dispositions.

What, did Gates accidentally kick some of Biden's little army-men across the floor when he walked into the VP's office?

Could McCrystal be “too big to fire/fail”? It seems to me that line of reasoning has been used recently...

The General demonstrated low moral character, poor judgement, and complete stupidity by voting for the known Mooslime, Commie, Chicago thug, doper, who isn’t even a Natural Born Citizen. He doesn’t belong in the military.

I was thinking, What good is a chastened Commander who has been in to see Obama and had his balls clipped.

Go ahead, Fire him, when he comes out of the Oval office he will have been made a Eunuch.

Mchrystal is giving himself cover to get out of Afghanistan.

First of all, he is a general and KNOWS that he has violated article 88 of the UCMJ and will be prosecuted unless he resigns. He may be an a##hole for voting for the douche bag in chief but he put in the current ROEs and has to live with what he is doing to our men or resign.

I think this is his way to get out of this mess with some semblance of honor. He isn’t going to make a “mistake” and isn’t stupid enough to think a Rolling Stone reporter is his friend. He wanted to get sh@t canned and this was a way to make the mess in Afghanistan all Obongo’s and his fellow pussies’ fault.

It is like breaking up with a girlfriend by getting her to dump you bcausenyou don want to be seen as mean.

He has to resign or face charges. There are no other options. I’d like to know what the legal eagles of FReepers think.

If Dear Leader isn’t going to fire McChrystal o’blah blah has caused colossal damage to the environment having him fly back to the U.S., ride in SUV’s and spew untold amounts of carbon.

obama hates mother earth

McChristal has been set up to fail and be the scapegoat. He wasn’t given the resources to implement the plan that he intended to use. He’s been second-guessed by politicians and academics. The President already surrendered to a bunch of stone-age religious zealots hiding in caves. There’s no way for him to win. “We have met the enemy and he is us.” I think McChristal would be happy to wash his hands of the whole mess and go one with his life.

What exactly did he say that violated Article 88 of the UCMJ? Have you read the article?

A guest on O’Reilly or Hannity last night said that McChrystal has always said he voted for Obama. If true, that’s clear evidence that McChrystal “doesn’t get it”, and we don’t need someone with that limited discernment in charge of any military operations. IMHO...

Are there any direct quotes of Mc Chrystal stating he voted for Dear Leader?

My career Navy father always said to only believe half of what you see and NONE of what you hear.
