The Next Civil War
The Gainesville Sun ^ | June 19, 2010 | LTC William Dixon, M.D.

Posted on 06/23/2010 8:20:39 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In 1861 America fought a civil war over slavery, States’ rights and economic differences between North and South. The opening shots of a second civil war were fired one hundred years later.

War began on college campuses with rebellion against academic and civil authorities. Hostages were taken, buildings occupied. There were riots and bombings. Students and police were killed and wounded. Anarchists joined civil rights activists and so-called “peace” activists in violent anti-war, anti-capitalism riots. In common was the attack on society and the Constitution in favor of an ill-defined “just” society to be created. Civil society suppressed the foul-mouthed radical students, the anarchists and the leftists but did not defeat them.

Student leaders ducked out of public sight, moved into academia, the unions, environmentalism and charitable foundations for support. There they prospered and wove virulent anti-capitalist, anti-American political philosophies into the fabric of these organizations. They gave up violence in favor of foisting their theories of social and economic “justice” on our brightest students, on our teachers and on politicians. These radicals worked quietly behind the scenes to gain control of the media, Hollywood, the schools and colleges and the Democrat Party.

Today, a majority of CEOs of big corporations and Wall Street financial institutions (Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs of Apple, Bill Gates and the leadership of Goldman-Sachs for example!) support the Progressive agenda. The election of Obama brought these radicals back into power.

The battle lines of this new war for the future of America are now drawn. On the left, leaders of the Progressive movement are wealthy, highly educated, extremely intelligent and masterful in their use of language to advance their issues. They are guided by the belief that a group of selfless, brilliant leaders using reason and logic can perfect humanity, eliminate injustice and famine and save the earth from mankind. They are ruthless in their belief that desired ends justify any means of attaining them. They believe the Constitution is outdated and flawed, needing of change. They favor more government regulation, taxation and litigation to achieve their Utopian goals.

Opposing the political left are traditionalists who believe in the relevance of the Constitution, the enduring wisdom of the Founders, smaller government, individual freedoms and individual responsibilities. Fewer, by way of comparison, are wealthy and have degrees from Ivy League colleges. But many have wisdom gleaned from dealing with realities rather than social theories. They don’t believe that any group of leaders, selfless or otherwise, is capable of making decisions wiser than citizens would make for themselves.

Most of the Progressive leaders have shunned military service considering it best suited to those of lesser intellect. They oppose strong national defense in favor of diplomacy. They disdain patriotic displays as nationalistic and misguided. They count themselves equally American and citizens of the world. Many opposing progressives are veterans proud of military service. Most are flag-waving patriots, nationalists and believers in American exceptionalism. Many own guns and willingly defend their families and their Constitutional freedoms. Most don’t believe that achieving political ends can ever justify a wrong.

The outcome of this new civil war is in doubt. If the left prevails, America will become a social welfare democracy, following the pattern of failing European states. If traditionalists prevail, America may return to the constitutional principles which it made it the most prosperous and free nation in history. The current balance of power favors the progressive left. But, history and an understanding of economics favors the traditionalists. The rising Tea Party movement suggests the balance of power may be shifting.

I was there for what I’m talking about...note that I’m not talking about the jungle gramps. I’m talking about back here in the “real world”, as they called it, when the fellers that were bums before the war were bums after the war. There were lots of those types. And lots of them joined the military back in the day. They did so cuz it was a guarantee back then. Not so anymore. And that is a fact.

Did you ever serve in the military? I don’t think you did. With the garbage you posted you have pissed on the honorable men and women that served our great republic in uniform during the 60’s to the early 80’s. I enlisted in the Marine Corps during the early 80’s. 1984 to be exact, and during my 22 years of active service I served with nothing more than the finest people our country has ever produced. As a young Pvt thru LCpl I looked up to my SNCO’s, all of whom were Viet Nam veterans. They brought me up proper. Not one of them was anything like you described, and I will defend their honor for as long as I am still breathing.

You cut an past that post from a Jane Fonda Rant ?

Not true of the memories I have of same era. Served from 72 to 94 active duty and 6 after that is reserves.

Not what I observed or knew as a teen in the sixties or the following decades in the company of veterans from that war as I served my country.

My observations, experiences first hand.....not an opinion.

Excellent analysis... socialism advances the fortunes of the political (ruling) elite and their supporters are too dumb, too out of tune, to know.

Matthew 18:8-9

If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

The litany of secession:

If a state or states causes socialism, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for a Free Republic to go on maimed or crippled than to have all its states and together be thrown into the eternal fire of collectivism. And if the Federal Government causes you to sin; secede from it, peacefully hopefully but secede just the same.. It is better to govern as a sovereign state, smaller and diminished in power than to be thrown into the fire of centralized Federal usurpation

The “extremely intelligent” ones I know, even related to, can’t start a weed whacker, don’t know how to load a firearm, can’t figure out that when vacuuming you point the exhaust to the rear. Those are only 3 examples of their intelligence; there are myriad more highlighting no common sense whatsoever. Obviously, the people I speak of are not leaders of their movement, but they are influential liberals in their areas and are representative of the types the article describes.

Where the rubber hits the road progressives are sorely lacking in skills to ensure their survival in a national upheaval. As long as their currency maintains a backing they could hire someone to take care of them in the interim I suppose. You know, the faceless, worthless drudges they profess to care so much about.

I was there ‘67-’93 and in a minor way he is semi-correct. We has MacNamara’s 100,000, a bunch of Cat IV”s mostly totally unsuited to military service. Some did ok but most got out and many became the bums they were on the way to being before being in service.

(for those who don’t know a Category IV is someone who is regarded as mentally Incapable of serving in the military.)

Personally I think its going to be all out war against Washington DC by the states that sign immigration laws and by Gulf Coast states that deny Obamacare, defy Obamas drilling moratorium and ignore federal lackadaisical oil cleanup policies.

You know...I’ve sat back here and atually read the rhetoric coming from you in this discussion, and I am so glad you have the right to express your opinion...You have been butting heads with the very folks who sacrificed to give you that freedom to do so...

We respect that right, but I and many others will dissagree with your statements because of its listless disparagy and lack of any respect for the gift you have been given to live in this country...

I can only assume you were at one time willing to serve our country, and you were turned away, that created a bitterness and a chip on your shoulder that is apparent with your commentary so far...And that would be a shame if it is true...

If it is not the case, then I would suggest you dissengage from this thread and respect the forum and those participating in it...

And that right there is a fact...I really hope you do take a break from this thread...

Buffet is an idiot about anything outside the financial world and Gates is and awkward high school kid who has the ability (all though it is beyond my why) to be at the right place at the right time to profit. Gates pretty much just worked until he got married. Socially awkward.

I remember that you live here. A while back I wrote to you thanking you for posting an article of mine. I told you I live in Gulfport. That’s why I mentioned the tropical wave and the GFDL Hurricane model.
