Sowell was doing well until he praised MacArthur. Many historians would disagree with the conventional wisdom on display here.

Dr Sowell, as usual, cuts through all the fog and BS being reported in the media (even Fox on this one) and gives us the big picture. Yes it’s wrong for the military to show contempt for civilian leadership, but the question remains does the regime’s actions deserve contempt?

... Stanley McChrystal has been a soldier's soldier-- someone who knows what to do on a battlefield and is not afraid to put himself in danger to do it.

Do we need more generals like this or do we need political generals who know how to cultivate Washington politicians, in order to advance their own careers?

Obama's made his call - we need more political butt kissers...

Okay, how ‘bout “relieved of command?”
“obliged to resign?” “asked to step down?”

Yep, and he's made that call pretty consistently.

If you get the opportunity, pick up one of his books at the book store or on the net. I read “Intellectuals & Society” by him. It was well worth the time.

Indeed it is. I proudly display 4 of his books in my bookshelf, which I frequently point out to my lib coworkers whenever they accuse me of being racist for opposing the anointed one (piss be upon him).

. . but perhaps he has even more by the number of people he’s educated.

Thousands, and if we give away more copies of his books, he can educate even more.

Sowell was doing well until he praised MacArthur.

He served in the Korean War himself - his assessment of MacArthur's character may be firsthand.

MacAuthor was one of the worlds great commanders. Any historian that says other wise has an agenda.

“Sowell was doing well until he praised MacArthur.”

Why? What’s wrong with Macarthur?

MacArthur had his own personal PR machine working overtime for him. Many felt he served his own ego and not his country or his troops. His management of Korea was an outright debacle.

MacArthur was a PR creation who grabbed the headlines and glory but made a series of decisions that cost a lot of troops their lives.

Actually Mac turned the Korean war around, Ichon? Truman was the fool not MacAuthor. Putting the 7th fleet between Formosa and China, basically securing the enemy’s flank, freed up all those Chinese troops to enter Korea. Truman’s screw up not MacAuthor’s.

“MacArthur was a PR creation who grabbed the headlines and glory but made a series of decisions that cost a lot of troops their lives.”

That kind of disinformation is deplorable. Read some accurate history.
