This is the extraordinary moment a photographer captured bolts of lightning striking not one, but two Chicago landmarks at the same time. Electricity rushed down the lightning rods atop the The Willis Tower and the Trump Tower at the exact same instant last night. Seen through the rain from the Hancock Tower, the strikes lit up the sky around.

Electricity rushed down the lightning rods atop the The Willis Tower and the Trump Tower at the exact same instant last night. Same instant or just during a few seconds long exposure?
Still a great picture of what happens when buildings cross the Daley family.

Isn’t that lightning awful thick? And it seems like it would be daylight at the tops of those buildings. Especially with a 50’ wide lightning strike.

Our kids were at the Sox game last night and they mentioned a pretty serious storm ripped through there. By the pictures, I see that is true.

Wow, super cool, thanks, I guess there is some truth in that you don’t want to be standing out in a field, ie, the tallest thing around ...

Same instant or just during a few seconds long exposure? Taking pictures of lightening requires specialized camera equipment or blind luck. Exposure settings have to be fast because the image will wash out due to the intensity of the light (take a picture of the sun with the exposure at 1/100 and see what I mean). Pro photographers who take pictures of lightning actually use a device that senses the light a snaps the picture - human reflexes are too slow.
