I used to live on a high floor (35th) condo with an unobstructed view to the west. It was great to watch thunderstorms rolling in across the city - far better than anything on television.

That’s one of the most remarkable pictures ever taken.
Truly a thing of beauty!

I'm no expert and I took this one the other day. I simply went with a very small apeture, low ISO, and 30 second exposure.
In the days before digital is would have been an expensive prospect to waste film hoping to catch a lightning strike. With digital I can simply discard the photos with no lightning and try again.

Being from the west coast, it seems strange having storms in summer....
I have friends in Ohio, the other day they said it was pour rain and in the high eighties...When it stops raining, they said the humidity becomes hellish....

In the midwest spring and summer is the time for hellaciously cool if not scary thunderstorms ...

Yeah, my friends in Ohio love the 89 degrees with the extreme humidity....They love it so much, they have nearly killed each other.

Exactly. Beautiful shot too :)
I get maybe one decent image in 30 shots. As you said, digital has made this possible. Otherwise, 30 shots would be the better part of a roll of film. $$$
The other part of luck is being where the storm is happening.

Yes, GOD, we know youre there....we HERE are listening...and yes, we hope you get the attention of some others!!! Amen.
By the way, interesting that Barak means 'lightning'.
Luke 10:18
"And He said to them, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven."
