I really don't know what to make of comments from Iranian spokesmen. They contradict each other left and right.

I (and a few others) actually fought the Iranians in the Persian Gulf back in 1987. ........................................ Supporting Saddam Hussein, by actually directing the artillery fire, under the guise of advisory instructors, against the waves of Iranians troops. The Iranians still remember that, and its one of the reasons why many support the regime. So I’ve been told by a couple of Iranians I know who fled Iran when the Shah left.
