Jon Kyl walks back White House border story
The Washington Post ^ | June 25, 2010; 4:54 PM ET | Rachel Weiner

Posted on 06/25/2010 8:36:51 PM PDT by Bratch

Earlier this week, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) caused a stir when he was quoted saying that President Obama personally told him the administration will not support stricter border enforcement until Republicans back broad immigration reform. The White House denied the claim. Now Kyl is saying that's not what he meant.

Fourth possibility: Post is making it up or, more likely, mischaracterizing what Kyl said. Doesn't matter, in any case. Deeds mean more than words. Obama is clearly NOT securing the Border and WILL NOT secure the Border. If he were even a bit serious, he would be building the long promised fence.

Thanks. It sounds like some posters are just tired and stressed out at the end of the week, and overreacting a bit to this WaPo article.

...The WaPo is trying to turn this into a significant mistake by Kyl, which it isn’t. This is a slight change in Kyl’s statement and it’s not going to cause any problem for Republicans in November.

Hope you're right. If so then Kyl needs to clarify his statement.

There were several gay drug dealers in chicago that claimed obama was gay and he pushed drugs at their church. They committed sucide ( a bullet to the back of their heads). A poll in chicago showed that 70 % of the people felt that obama was somehow involved. Maybe Kly had a very good reason to backtract!! It can be real unhealthy (politically and otherwize )to oppose obama.

I’m so full of distrust for my government

It's not our government any more. It's an alien government with an alien as its head -- literally and figuratively. This government does not represent or work on behalf of the American people.

I did not read it as a “walking back” his comments either. If the Washington Post got it right, then he was simply pointing out that Obama had not used the word “hostage” even though that is clearly the strategy of this administration.

I am disappointed by the many on FR who have not bothered to actually read the story, but are willing to throw Kyl under the bus based on a hit job by the Washington Post.

Do not trust the Washington Post.

Kyl said what he meant and meant what he said. Everything else is just Democrat “mainstream” newsroom spin. The scumbag Democrats are holding border security hostage in exchange for “comprehensive” (meaning: including a lot of crap that would never pass on its own) immigration reform.

This is what Ubama told Kyl.. Nothing has changed, and Kyl is NOT “walking back” his story - - he’s just pushing back on the Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms’ inaccurate spin.

Welcome to Free Republic 2010.
I sometimes wonder if it isn't so much the knee-jerk stupidity of some posters as it is rat operatives and other trolls trying to stir things up.

The scumbag Democrat newsrooms spun a tale from Kyl's comments and when Kyl corrected the spin, they happily reported that Kyl was "walking back" (whatever that means) his story.

Kyl is "walking back" nothing.

I have every confidence that the GOP is going to blow it’s historic opportunity in November.

Psssst......Those who run the GOP (RINOs) DON'T want a conservative victory in November...

I don’t see how this explanation changes anything Kyl said about Barry0’s comments. It doesn’t seem to me that Kyl is walking back anything.

Oh I can believe it’s another hit and run piece from WAPO. They’ve done this for years.

My willingness to throw him under the bus has nothing to do with this article. It’s the fact he’s an open borders proponent who lied about being for enforcement to get elected and has only recently become hawkish again because it helps John McCain.

Well it might if people accept the headline at face value and don't read and think about what the article actually says. It seems most of the posters on this thread have accepted the headline without any critical thought.

I’m trying to find the National Review article. So far I find a Washington Post account and a National Review Account.

I’m wondering if James Taranto will touch on it.

We need a bit of research on this one.

1,000% correct, and we can't believe a single word either of those Arizona senators say on the immigration/amnesty issue, at least until they can get Juan McCain another six years.
