The tithe is given as faith unto the Lord. Although this church leaders are in error it wasn’t always this way. No church that promotes gay couples is worthy of seeding tithes in faith. Best to have those leaders removed or its faithful members leave and find a non-heretical church.
When christianity loses its salt this nation is on the slippery slope.

From what I can see, she feels that the pastors (and possibly the upper ranks of leadership) came into the church, were hired with the understanding that they accepted the way things had always been for the many years she had been a member, but simply went and changed things with no objection from the main leadership of the church. She had contributed money with one objective (preaching of the Gospel), and somebody came along and substituted another.

This is my understanding of it. I’m not sure she has any cause of action, but I think it’s good to do this anyway. I have a friend who worked for a big Protestant organization that survived on the bequests of little old ladies from the Heartland, and had gone rogue and between spending insane amounts on personal perks for the head honchos and buying into bizarre social justice projects, was spending the money of these women in ways they would never, ever have wanted.

Sometimes estates have sued for misuse of funds, although I’m not sure of their success rate. Maybe that’s how she should approach it.

The church was owned by her and the other parishioners

Is that really the way the deed of ownership is written, with ownership divisible to individual congregants? In that case, anyone who leaves, for any reason, could demand to be paid out his "share," even if they had to sell the church property to raise the cash.

If a church goes bad they should not be liable for the time when they weren’t bad.

That's the way I'm looking at it. I suppose it's simply a matter of one's perspective. My perspective is that my contributions to my church are an element of my participation while I'm a member of that church. I'm receiving the benefits at the time I'm making the contributions. I don't have any legal, or moral, claim on the future actions of the church.

If I decide to leave for any reason, I stop contributing to church A and begin contributing to church B, clean slate. If Free Republic were bought out by the Huffington Post, I'd stop contributing to Free Republic, but I wouldn't expect a return of my contributions from the years I was using the site!

The Catholic Church does not “hide” its pedophiles (if you will examine the actual cases, you will see that in a large number of them it was the civil authorities who had decided not to prosecute, or that it was criminal court judges who had sentenced these guys to therapy instead of prison). As for pornographers, what are you talking about?

The whole problem with all Christian churches, including much of the Catholic Church and the various Protestant churches, is that back in the 1960’s, they accepted civil standards as their own. So if anything is ok with the State, it’s okay with the Christian churches.

This is not how it should be.

It also speaks against woman pastors. She might’ve gleaned a clue from that little stinkiness.

So she’s protesting one anti-biblical behavior with he own anti-biblical behavior?

I believe the ownership of Protestant churches can vary and depends on the denomination or even the congregation (in the case of a black church).

I am not now and never have been a Protestant, so I can’t really understand these things from the inside. But from what I have read and Protestant friends have told me, there is wide variation but Protestants generally feel that by chosing their pastor they have some control. I don’t know.

As for property, judging from what I’ve seen about the “traditional Anglicans,” I think it’s pretty obvious that the courts are going to side with the established group unless there is some clear separate title, regardless of the fact that many people who contributed initially had no idea that the organization would morph into what it is today. Not an encouraging precedent.

Next campaign for the libs: get the blacks out of the churches.

Can't have their number one demographic for pandering opposing abortion and supporting traditional marriage.

Every Baptist I know claims to be Sola Scriptura (Bible only) believers:

At the 1:20 mark pastor Wiley says "You can't read a Bible and somehow think you have mastered the word of God"

Isn't that essence of SS that the plain things are the main things, and the main things are the plain things.

Second it is a husband and wife pastoral team. I thought there was a prohibition in the Bible about having woman speaking out in church?

This is the same thing that caused a serious rift between the SBC and the TBC years ago.

This really shoots a hole in the Sola Scriptura myth doesn't it.

To bad she dropped the suit, I have loved to have seen that one go to court.

I quit going to my last church when the pastor announced he was going to perform one of these “ceremonies” for a person who turned out to be, of all people, the church’s youth pastor!

Good move. A church that abandons its principles has broken the covenant with God and the members. Actions should have consequences.

That church sounds like Glendale Baptist church here in Nashville.

A homosexual haven.

I doubt she will get her tithes back, but an interesting way to protest.

May want to check this thread appearing yesterday on FR:
Priest gets nearly 7 years in prison on child porn charges

Here is a man who for years dealt with children’s sexual activity pictures and then walked into the confessional or to an “altar” and claimed (with the approval of headquarters) to be an “alter Christus”. That is what I am talking about.

What is not clear is whether the bizarre requirement for celibacy is primarily to blame or just the fact that the Roman Catholic Church’s doctrines are so empty that this kook found no hope. Jury is still out.

"you, sir or madam, are among the worst of the haters in the world...KMA, A$$hole."

No hate involved, Joe, just setting out the truth. If that is distasteful to you such that you must sling potty mouth stuff, I cannot help you.

All groups that harbor such animals as the priests that have been "transferred" or ignored, and all groups which sponsor gay anything are unbelievers. I simply pointed out that included the RCC. Your vitriol is aimed in the wrong direction.

I don’t blame her a bit and Churches that go this route should realize what they might be in for. It might make their decisions be based more on what their members want and the Bible more than current pc standards dictate.

>> the Catholic church that hides its pedophiles and pornographers.

This was certainly a serious problem, but the Catholic Church has taken serious steps to address it (at least in the US).

>> None of these organizations are Christians

Grammatically and factually incorrect.
