Harry M. Reid needed money, and lots of it. Last spring, the Senate majority leader was looking ahead to a tough reelection fight. Polls showed that the voters back home in Nevada who sent him to Washington four times had tired of him. Republican Party fundraisers had all but declared him their No. 1 target for defeat. Taking them on would be expensive, and he wasn't drawing nearly enough cash from contributors inside Nevada. So Reid did what politicians in his position do: He picked up the phone.
The senator began dialing old and new friends across the country, asking for their help. Many had one thing in common: They had a financial stake in legislation that Reid, as the most powerful member of the Senate, helps control.
One of the calls Reid placed seeking cash was to trial lawyer John Morgan. At a party held at his home near Orlando in March, Morgan raised about $96,000 for Reid's reelection battle.
Trial lawyers have long given generously to Democrats, and to Reid. Morgan, whose firm Morgan and Morgan is preparing legal claims against BP on behalf of the gulf region's tourism industry and commercial fishermen, said he's helping Reid because the pro-consumer senator is under attack by "tea party" Republican Sharron Angle, and Morgan would "rather have one trial lawyer in Congress than 500 bureaucrats."
"Prospectively, of course, I'm looking for laws that I think are pro-consumer. Consumer rights is my issue -- that is my livelihood," he said.
Reid has raised $16.9 million for his 2010 campaign, $10 million of it in itemized contributions since 2009. Eighty percent of that $10 million came from out of state. (Angle has raised $1.3 million, with 70 percent of itemized contributions coming...

Mary Reid knows full well that a Fool and their money are soon parted.
I’m willing to kick in a couple bucks. Who did you say was running against him?
Out of State donations should be illegal, period!
Translation-----"I am a predatory scavenger. I live off the road-kill of society."
I didn’t say....but I believe that his TEA Party approved opponent is conservative Sharron Angle.
He is probably tapping BP’s $20 billion. After all, he is anticipating a potential loss of income and perks.
Wasn’t there a story a while back saying that Reid got the opponent he wanted? Seems like he is more afraid than he is giving off. I hope him and his son lose big time in November. I’ll be willing to bear all the sob stories the lib media will publish once this clown loses.
Yep, there’s been several articles posted that he got the opponent he wanted in Sharron Angle, he just may live to eat those words. :)
Come on Las Vegas Ron.
Then how could the Communist Chineese contribute to the Clinotons?
How could Union money go national?
Because he, as so many other "trial lawyers", has found that in civil cases, trial lawyers get to: - feed from deep pockets and go after "evil corporations."
- Tap the pity pool with juries and their identification with the victim, even if the 'victim' became a victim because they were an idiot.
- Depend on the lower standard of proof and less rigorous level of jury verdicts.
- Set it up so they will be first at the trough, and the plaintiffs (especially in class-action suits) can get stuck with crappy coupons, while lawyers get cash.
- Can exploit labrynthine laws and professional victims to shake down even the most socially-conscious, consumer-oriented business.
I'm with Dick the butcher on this one.
Why? Rubio is getting a ton from out of towners. Elections are extremely expensive. I would say that many people would be toast if they did not accept money outside their states. Many sent Brown money to win Kennedy’s seat. I did not hear you worried about it then....suddenly you have a problem with it?
Beyond the glowing “special feature” article in the June, 2010 NRA “American Rifleman” magazine (p16), how much is the NRA contributing to Dingy Harry?
Whatever it is, it’s too damned much.
Reid is one slug that I can’t wait to pour some salt on this November.
I have a problem with any politician getting money from out side their State.
I don't recall if I ever posted anything regarding Scott's contributions but I do know that you have not read every single post that I have made here, so how can you say I suddenly have a problem with it?
I simply think that Representatives of their particular State should receive campaign funds from THEIR constituents and not outside influences....I don't particularly care for wealthy eastern money influencing elections in my State and MY Representatives election.
And people wonder WHY their Representative don't listen, they don't need us to get elected!
There are only 535 congressmen making law for the nation.
Most conservatives were happy when Newt nationalized the 1994 congressional elections.
Everyone in the country had an interest in that guy winning Kennedy's seat in Massachusets.

Yes indeed, you make a great point.
I guess I could say that that's not the way it is supposed to be but what's the use, nothing is the way it is supposed to be any more.
The filthy crooks seem to have it all slanted in their favor, I think it's time for a re set.
