Penn Jillette, Not Having the Courage to Confront Islam is Bull

It’s always a sad day when someone you admire tremendously, who has entertained and challenged you for years lets you down and reveals themselves to really stand up only for themselves instead of the ideas of freedom they claim to support.

Reason Magazine highlights some deeply discouraging remarks from Penn Jillette, the libertarian co-host of the extraordinarily great Showtime show “Penn and Teller’s Bullsh*t”:

Are there any groups you won’t go after? We haven’t tackled Scientology because Showtime doesn’t want us to. Maybe they have deals with individual Scientologists—I’m not sure. And we haven’t tackled Islam because we have families.

In a very real sense Penn has just gone after Islam. He says he would not mock them because he has a family. What he is saying is the truth. He is an entertainer and not a martyr. Public figures who mock or disparge Islam have short life spans.

Who is going to protect him if he takes the step in that direction? Obama? The FBI? Homeland Security?

No, they won't lift a finger to protect him. They will just wait until he's dead and then pretend that it had nothing to do with Islam.

That was my first thought, that he was making the point, "Islam is so evil, they'll kill you if you mock them, and I won't do that to my family." I dunno...maybe I'm just giving him too much credit.
