No Sex Please, We’re Middle Class By CAMILLE PAGLIA Published: June 25, 2010

WILL women soon have a Viagra of their own? Although a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recently rejected an application to market the drug flibanserin in the United States for women with low libido, it endorsed the potential benefits and urged further research. Several pharmaceutical companies are reported to be well along in the search for such a drug.

Chemicals being used to enhance “sex” are not going to replace the EMOTION that makes sex worthwhile and wonderful. It will be another hollow experience emotionally and only satisfy the PHYSICAL aspect of sex.

Bump so I can find this later. The comments could be interesting, and I expect there will be a lot of comments saying it’s all the fault of women.

American actresses have desexualized themselves, confusing sterile athleticism with female power. Their current Pilates-honed look is taut and tense — a boy’s thin limbs and narrow hips combined with amplified breasts.

I find rock-hard six-pack abs on a woman to be horrifying to look at. And I doubt I could ever be interested in a woman who could bench-press ... me.

Conversely, I can’t stand looking at men in baggy pants while wearing a long shirt.

I love my man in a pair of snug fitting Wrangler Jeans and a skin tight T Shirt.

Now, that’s yummy to look at!

Why would women need Viagra? They don’t need to have an erection to have sex. Viagra doesn’t increase sex drive in men, it merely makes it possible for that drive to express itself with an erection. In fact Doctors will tell you Viagra won’t work if you don’t have the desire. So, calling this a female Viagra is just stupid.

It will be another hollow experience emotionally and only satisfy the PHYSICAL aspect of sex.

but it could be helpful to those couples who have the emotional connection but not the physical drive due to some kind of chemical imbalance...

As a general rule, at some deep level, if a woman doesn’t want babies they are going to stop wanting sex.

Inhibitions are stubbornly internal. And lust is too fiery to be left to the pharmacist.

Well, said, Ms. Paglia!

Another Phd feeding her own ego by writing a Peggy Noonan-esque prose-choked op-ed in the NY Times.

Bottom line, she blames Whitey.

Crap.

Actually Camille Paglia is a very astute observer of social attitudes. She has her own take on them, to be sure, but her writing is not quite as ‘precious’ as Peggy Noonan’s usually gets.
