Rest in Peace.
He was mocked here, many times, and perhaps rightly so. Now he is gone. Let the family mourn, let his friends cry, and let’s let him go into eternity with little rancor.

Just heard it too on local news radio in Washington, D.C.
To: careyb
so does this mean the dems will be looking for another former kkk leader to run for office?

For anyone wondering:
Joe Manchin, governor of West Virginia, is a DEMOCRAT.

Well as the saying goes, we should not speak evil of the recently departed, therefore, I'll wait a respectful period--maybe a week or so?--before offering my opinion!
As an aside, I just read somewhere that if he were considered unable to continue serving (which I assume his demise would be classified as such) and the Gov. appoints someone before July 3rd, that person would serve only until Nov and have to stand for special elections; if after the 3rd, that person would serve out the entire term.
Thus it will be interesting to watch the Demo-Rats at work as they try their damnedest to come up with some reason why his replacement can't be named until after the 3rd.

Joe Manchin, governor of West Virginia, is a DEMOCRAT. Rahm's already got him on his speed dial.

From what I understand, because Byrd died before July 3, the person the governor appoints will have to run in a special election in November. If Byrd had died after July 3, the person would serve out Byrd’s term until 2012.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Let's see what happens...I think Manchin may be rolled by Hussein into appointing Valerie Jarret. < \half joke>
Seriously, though, I wonder if this is a Democrat who has the BALLS to stand up to the Prompter Punk.

He’s gone. Another special election will have to be held in November in a state that has gone the longest without a GOP Senator (last one elected in 1956). Will Gov. Manchin risk a backlash having himself appointed ?

If it persists, Byrds illness could complicate the financial reform bills path to President Barack Obamas desk. Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, one of four Republicans who voted for the original bill, has said he might vote against the version that emerged from the reconciliation of the House and Senate versions because it adds a $19 billion bank tax.
Should Brown vote no and Byrd is unable to vote, it would leave the bill one vote shy of the 60 needed to close debate and move to final passage.

Too many American Warriors unnecessarily have fallen on Byrd's watch. Everyday lately we get the news of more of those warriors falling in Afghanistan in large part because of the ROEs that dictate that they can't bring full force against suspected terrorist filth. Those ROEs exist at the behest of the CIC Maobama who had the full support of Robert C. Byrd and the rest of the human refuse that is the democrat party. Maobamacare, tax increases, decreases in our Constitutional Rights and on and on are all in place or are strongly contemplated by the democrat party of Robert C. Byrd and Akbar Hussein Maobama.
I hope the evil old bastard rots in hell.

Actually, he did. His bluegrass music in his youth was quite decent. Should have stayed with it.

Kerry and Dodd will have a talk with Brown and he’ll cave. Byrd’s replacement will be a certain vote for the bill. Obama’s new tax on everyone who has a bank account will be protected.
Oh and RIP.
