Smoking will never be outlawed. Think of all the tax $$$ that’ll be lost. Ever notice that there’s stiffer criminal penalties for “smuggling” cigarettes from a low tax state into a high tax state, or selling cigarettes you bought at an Indian reservation than there is for possession of pot.

I guarantee that the majority of that 26% are the same ones who cry “KEEP YOUR LAWS OFF MY BODY!”

I’d be interested in a study/survey of people on whether or not cigarettes should be outlawed, followed up with a question of whether or not marijuana should be legalized.

If government just stopped protecting the tobacco industry, it would be sued out of existance in a very short time. But they will never let that happen, because they want that tax money.

I agree. I mean, history shows us that banning a legal drug has never led to problems. Right?

25 of 26% are probably ex-smokers.

I’d almost guarantee that the 26% who want to ban cigs are the same people who also want to ban trans-fats, salt in food, and non-”energy efficient” lightbulbs.

The next question to those opposed to smokers should be:
Are you willing to pay the several dollars per day in cigarette taxes that would be lost?

If you don’t smoke them, then what do you do with them?Oh yeah,I remember,Bubba contrived at least one alternative to”smoking”cigars!Naw,wouldn’t work with cigarettes!!
To: rightwingintelligentsia
The hypocrisy in this whole smoking ban thing is that if one accepts the danger of the health problem as promoted by the anti-smoking zealots then a tobacco prohibition is the only rational answer. However that won’t happen because tobacco taxes are a major source of government revenue and an easy tax to increase. Politicians want to have it both ways...they don’t want you to smoke, but balance their budgets on ever increasing tobacco taxes from people who do smoke. George Orwell called this “doublethink”...holding two contradictory ideas in ones mind simultaneously and believing both.

I’m a non-smoker; in fact, I hate being around smoking BUT...
what ever happened to the “Land of the Free?”
Where in the US Constitution does the federal gub-mint have the power to make smoking illegal? Where?
Without a legal basis, such as change to the Constitution, 80% of the populace could want to outlaw it but that still doesn’t make it legal.
