850 Orthodox Rabbis Against Obama's Supreme Court Choice
Israel National News ^ | 06/28/2010 | Eli Stutz

Posted on 06/28/2010 11:19:06 PM PDT by Uncle Miltie

The Rabbinical Alliance of America, which represents 850 Orthodox Rabbis, harshly criticized U.S. President Barack Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court, Elena Kagan. Kagan, 50, is set to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, 90, the court's foremost liberal.

Rabbi Yehuda Levin, speaking on behalf of the body of rabbis, issued a statement explaining their position, saying:

"Ms. Kagan is Non-Kosher - not fit to serve on the supreme court or any other court. It is clear from Ms. Kagan's record on issues such as abortion-on-demand, Partial-Birth-Abortion, the radical homosexual and lesbian agenda, the "supremacy" of the anti-family panoply over religious liberties of Biblical adherents, et. al., that she will function as a flame-throwing radical, hastening society's already steep decline into Sodom and Gommorah."

Levin told CNSNews.com that his fellow rabbis and hundreds of thousands of Orthodox Jews--are confused at the Obama's choice of Kagan.

“What exactly was Obama thinking, President Obama thinking, when he nominated Kagan? Because eventually, down the road, someone--or some group--is going to ‘take the hit’ for the crazy decisions that Kagan is bound to make. So we would have much preferred if President Obama had given this ‘distinction’ to another minority group, instead of singling out the Jews.”

"We feel that Elena Kagan turns traditional Judaism on its head--from a concept of a nation of priests and holy people, she is turning it into, ‘Let’s homosexualize every segment of society. And by the way, partial-birth babies have no right to be delivered.’"

Senator Jeff Sessions, the leading Republican on the Judiciary Committee said that Kagan can expect hard questions regarding her ability to be a Supreme Court justice.

Sessions, who appeared on Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation" said, "She has the least experience of any nominee at least in the last 50 years."

"Ms. Kagan is Non-Kosher"

I suspect he meant to say she doesn't "keep kosher", unless he plans on sampling her like an oscar meyer weiner.

No, the point is she is corrupt to the core.

Has zero to do with observance.

You people are obviously totally ignorant about Rabbi Levin and his organization. He has been in the fight against liberal Democrats and for moral sanity for decades, even running for Congress at one point. There are, unfortunately, plenty of Orthodox Jews who are “yellow dog Democrats,” but I can guarantee you that this group isn’t among them. My point is this, friend ...

Obama wins 77% of Jewish Vote

Jews looked past worries to embrace Obama

Obama winning over Jewish vote

And I stick by what I posted ... over 70% of Jews voted for this jerk so you get what you vote for.

We don't live in a theocracy.

That is obvious. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be.

If the separation of religion and politics is too much of a problem for anyone, then perhaps he or she would be more comfortable in a theocratic society.

If G-d exists, then the universe is a Theocracy.

I assume that most non-Jews have as much interest in living under Halakha as I do in living under the religious laws of any other religion.

Utterly irrelevant. Jews are objectively bound by the Torah, non-Jews by Noachide Halakhah. That is simply the reality. Who does or doesn't like it is immaterial.

The article is about the Rabbinical Alliance of America. According to the organization's website Rabbi Hecht is the President of that organization. Rabbi Levin is its spokesperson.

Rabbis Levin and Hecht are connected? That's great! Anybody who promulgates official statements from the Igud Horabbonim should be aware of the history of its President -- a man who issued what was in effect a Jewish fatwa that sanctioned the assassination of Prime Minister Rabin.

So, you're opposed to the idea of a Halakhically imposed death penalty? You are aware, are you not, that Judaism actually resembles islam more than it does chr*stianity, and its Theocratic/statutory nature is one such resemblance.

In my book,

"Your book" is irrelevant. The Torah is supreme.

that's terrorism -- and Israel agrees with me, which is why Hecht is banned from ever entering that country.

I take it you're opposed to rebuilding the Temple, reinstituting the offerings, and reestablishing a Theocratic Sanhedrion with the authority to execute people for idolatry.

About what I'd expect from someone who would make such a ridiculous claim as that "most rabbis accept evolution."

And I stick by what I posted: Rabbi Levin, and his organization, did not vote for Obama. Rabbi Levin has been fighting the good fight for decades. You reacted as if he was a disappointed Obama supporter when he never was.

The voting habits of other Jews is irrelevant to this discussion--unless one is an anti-Semite.

I don’t like it when Christians try to do it and that was one of my many criticisms of Huckabee’s candidacy in ‘08.

Perhaps we should repeal the laws against murder and theft. After all, can't have the government tangled up in morality [/sarcasm].

Are you unaware that Judaism is a Theocratic religion?

Who cares? If every Jewish voter in America voted for McCain, Obama would still be president.

Will the “secular Jews” begin to call Orthodox Jews “bible-thumping morons” as they do the Christians in flyover country?
They are routinely called old-fashioned, medieval, ghetto-dwellers, etc. LEftist Jews are alienated from Judaism before anything else.
And how many people remember liberal Jews refusing to stand up during the Crown Hieghts Progrom because "they are not our type of Jews". Or we have liberal Jewish groups suing to prevent School choice or the creation of Eruvs, lines that would allow Orthodox Jews to perform normal activities during the Sabbath.

“Leftist Jews are alienated from Judaism before anything else.”

A respectful question:

If so, then how can they call themselves Jews? (Could they possibly be hiding behind Judaism?)

Thanks for your further reply.

So, you're opposed to the idea of a Halakhically imposed death penalty?

Of course I am. No sane person thinks rabbis should be going around pronouncing death sentences. Of course you aren't Jewish, so I'm not sure why you think any of us should care what your thoughts are on Jewish law.

ou are aware, are you not, that Judaism actually resembles islam more than it does chr*stianity

Why don't you go practice Islam then? I don't need to hear some non-Jew try to tell me why Jewish law sanctions the assassination of the Israeli Prime Minister. I assure you it does not.

I take it you're opposed to rebuilding the Temple, reinstituting the offerings, and reestablishing a Theocratic Sanhedrion with the authority to execute people for idolatry. About what I'd expect from someone who would make such a ridiculous claim as that "most rabbis accept evolution."

This is a joke, right? I think you need some thorazine. Do you know any actual Jews? This is about as far from Orthodox Judaism as you can get.

Jews know instinctively that they shouldn’t be ‘the same’ as their non-Jewish neighbors. And non-Jews always seem to make sure that a Jew never escapes being Jewish.

Of course I am. No sane person thinks rabbis should be going around pronouncing death sentences.

Rabbi Levin, who is the author of source of this expose on Kagan, has never advocated assassinating anyone. As for death sentences, while the legal mechanism is not currently in place, a chayyav mitah is still a chayyav mitah. In the absence of competent Halakhic authority HaShem executes sentence. However, once competent Halakhic authority is reinstated it will have the responsibility of executing sentence if all criteria are met.

There are certain offenses that carry the penalty of chayyav mitah bazeman hazeh, and just three hundred years ago, with the permission of the host authorities, the rabbinate and battey din could actually carry it out. I happen to be of the persuasion that this polity should be restored.

Of course you aren't Jewish, so I'm not sure why you think any of us should care what your thoughts are on Jewish law.

Well, seeing as I and all other non-Jews are bound by the Noachide Laws I have to take an interest in these things. You aren't one of those people who thinks Judaism teaches "religious freedom," are you?

ou are aware, are you not, that Judaism actually resembles islam more than it does chr*stianity

Why don't you go practice Islam then?

Oh, so you're saying Judaism is more like chr*stianity then?

I don't need to hear some non-Jew try to tell me why Jewish law sanctions the assassination of the Israeli Prime Minister. I assure you it does not.

What does Jewish law have to say about slander, as you have perpetrated against Rabbi Levin, who has never advocated assassinating anyone? And while I don't know you, I have reason to believe you are no poseq. What kind of person would claim, as you did, that "most rabbis" accept evolution? You can't possibly be ignorant enough to actually believe this.

I take it you're opposed to rebuilding the Temple, reinstituting the offerings, and reestablishing a Theocratic Sanhedrion with the authority to execute people for idolatry.

This is a joke, right? I think you need some thorazine. Do you know any actual Jews? This is about as far from Orthodox Judaism as you can get.

Every Orthodox Jew lives in a "portable" Theocracy. Orthodox Jews are subject to rabbinical authorities (though there is at this time no single structure). Every Orthodox Jew awaits and prays for the restoration of the Davidic Kingdom, the rebuilding of the Beit HaMiqdash, and the reinstitution of the qorbanot. The fact that this situation does not at present exist does not in the least mitigate the fact that the current situation is an exile, a punishment for sin and nothing else. What do you think Mashiach is going to do when he gets here . . . implement "freedom of religion" for everyone?

Sad.

Your frustration is inderstandable. Being Jewish, I am probably even more frustrated with the voting record of many of my co-relihionists.

But your post shows the danger of seeing individuals through the prism of a group. You are complaing about our kindred souls --- conservative Jews. It's like lashing out at Americans for Obama, just because the majority of Americans voted for him. Needless to say there were a minority of Americans that did not vote for him. You wouldn't lash out at them, would you?
