I don't know where you live but a Cat 2 hurricane can cause a lot of damage. Galveston and places along the coast were devastated, homes destroyed. Galveston lost all its century + oak trees because salt water covered the roots. Houston is 50 miles from the coast and we were devastated. Huge trees blown down in my yard and all over town. No electricity, traffic lights, gasoline pumps, fresh food/milk in the stores for 2 weeks. Some places electricity was off longer. Ike was a devastating Cat 2 hurricane.

NHC should be quite pleased with their tracking on this one, so far anyway.

Heard on the radio yesterday that 30% of the storms make landfall OUT of the forecasted cone.

I kind of think they shouldn’t give cute names like Alex to hurricanes.

They should use names like Muhammed and Achmed.

Take it up with Sheila Jackson Lee. She claims discrimination because Shaniqua, Duwayne or Plaxico aren't included in the hurricane name list.

and there she goes.

Anyone on the thread near the area of projected landfall? Will continue to pray.

You think it was bad in Ohio - you should have seen it in Houston!

Amen to that! The rebuild of coastal homes in Seabrook [in between Houston and Galveston] still continues today.

I’m going to bite my tongue about Duwayne but Plaxico is a name I could get behind!

At 1021 am CDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
tornado 9 miles west of Port Isabel... moving southwest at 50 mph.

The tornado will be near...
del Mar Heights.
Brownsville.
Rancho Viejo.

In addition to the tornado... wind gusts near 60 mph will also be
possible.

Ditter, I’m a Texan. Of course I know how devastating Ike was. Family members were affected, both my adult children and my siblings.

My point was not to belittle the storm’s impact but rather to point out that “only a Cat 2” can do tremendous damage.

Tropical Storm Allison, not even a hurricane, ruined Houston in 2001. Perhaps you were there?

Sorry if you misunderstood the intent of my remark. Texas weather is NEVER to be taken lightly. :-/
