Reporting from Mexico City — Mexican authorities said Friday that they have arrested the leader of a Ciudad Juarez street gang who ordered the fatal shooting attack on a U.S. consular worker in the border town in March.

Federal police said Jesus Ernesto Chavez told them that consular employee Lesley A. Enriquez, 35, was targeted because she was providing visas to rivals.

Police said Chavez, 41, also confessed to having taken part in a January shooting attack on a teen party that killed 15 people and raised an unusual outcry in Mexico over the runaway violence that has made Ciudad Juarez the deadliest city in the nation.

Jesus Ernesto Chavez, whose nickname is "the Camel," is said to be the leader of a street gang known as the Aztecas, which is are allied with the Juarez cartel and has members on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. (Mario Guzman / EPA / July 2, 2010)

"The Juarez slayings sparked worries that U.S. citizens or government employees had become targets of the violent drug-trafficking gangs that have waged war with Mexican authorities and each other in recent years.

"The State Department at the time announced that diplomatic employees along the border in northern Mexico could move family members and dependents to the U.S. side."

Will he be invited to sit on the maoist’s immigration panel?

Kind of like bubba inviting gang bangers to his inauguration ball.

“Chavez told them that consular employee Lesley A. Enriquez, 35, was targeted because she was providing visas to rivals”

Hmmmm,, it should be easy to verify that claim. If it’s true, the question becomes whether she was corrupted, or whether was she the unlucky employee another cartel blamed for a lax US embassy, that would grant a visa to enemy cartel members?

Either way,, if members of another cartel indeed obtained a visa,, there is a big problem here.

Also,, even if she obtained a visa for someone in another cartel, it could have been under duress. You open a brief case full of hundreds for someone,, and tell em they can help you and get the reward, or they can stick to the rules and be dead by the weekend.

They do it down there a lot. Including to ranchers. Some ranchers along the border are very well paid just to “not see” anything when they look out the front window some night. And they know good and well what happens if they don’t play ball.

This dirty war needs to be addressed soon. It’s America’s next war,,,

I predict 0bama will give him a medal of honor, invite him to the White House for a beer, allow him to go on TV with him so that he can blast Arizona's new law, and settle out of court for all the trauma his family had to go through because he was arrested. Don't worry the $600 million that will be award to him only comes out to $2 per American. (Well, more like $95 when you add on admin cost and corruption pmts to US and Mexican officials.....)

I wonder what the Mexican cops did to him to make him talk?

This guy really missed his calling in life. He cudda made $172,000/year serving as nobama’s special deputy assistant to the sitting deputy director of Hispanic outreach.

Are we sure he’s not just an innocent tomato picker trying to feed his family?

If the Camel can get his trial moved to the US, a jury in San Francisco or Los Angeles will fully understand his plight, and give him a job coordinating the Arizona boycott after acquittal. He won't even have to go back to Mexico.

notice how the leftist papers avoid the word murder.

checking other news sources they only use it as the official charges. Other then right wing extremist papers the British papers are the only ones using the term.

is this one of the lefts accepted wars?
