McCain breaks away as critical support eludes Hayworth
Arizona Capitol Times ^ | July 2, 2010 | Jeremy Duda

First, it was Sarah Palin. Then it was Arizona Right to Life and the National Rifle Association. Most recently, the revered National Review gave its imprimatur to McCain.

When Hayworth entered the race in January, McCain was at his most vulnerable point in decades. Polling showed McCain had a lead within the margin of error and was struggling to redefine himself as a Republican loyalist. But polls now show McCain with a solid lead.

Baker said the McCain campaign may have engineered a sort of domino effect: Each endorsement shows the next group that backing McCain is a safer bet than it may have first appeared, and Republican voters seem to be following the same trend.

McCain has focused Hayworth’s reputation in Congress as a pork-barrel spender, a serious offense to many conservatives. And the senator has run an undeniably negative campaign against Hayworth, openly mocking him and attacking his credibility.

The McCain campaign has posted videos online poking fun at Hayworth for questioning the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate, suggesting that allowing gay marriage could pave the way for men to wed horses, and especially for appearing in a 2007 infomercial urging people to take advantage of “free money” from government grants.

The infomercial for the National Grants Conferences has been the most damning revelation yet, combining the promotion of government spending with a host of informercial stereotypes. It prompted the popular FOX News personality Glenn Beck to declare that Hayworth’s campaign is over.

If McCain had a more conservative challenger, National Review wrote, the endorsement might have gone elsewhere. But while Hayworth’s record is conservative, the article read, it isn’t conservative enough to make a compelling case against McCain.

“He may not be Marco Rubio, but he’s not Arlen Specter either,” the editorial said of McCain.

If McCain does manage to hold on to his Senate seat, we will have Sarah to thank for it, and she will bear responsibility for each and every sort of RINO crap that comes out of McStain for the next 6 years, or whenever he croaks off, whichever comes first. _________________________________________________________

It’s well known that John McCain is rich, because of his marriage to Cindy Hensley McCain, who inherited the biggest Budweiser distributorship in Arizona, which earns $300 million a year, from her father Jim.

What’s less well known is the source of that money. Jim Hensley and his brother Eugene worked for Kemper Marley, Sr., who had cornered the Arizona liquor market after Prohibition was lifted, and assigned the Budweiser distributorship to Jim Hensley. Phoenix police named (but never charged) Marley as the man who ordered the infamous assassination of Phoenix reporter Don Bolles in 1976. The man convicted of the murder — John Adamson — testified that Marley ordered the hit after a Bolles story forced him to resign from the state racing commission. Bolles was investigating mob ties in Arizona — and had written about Marley’s political and business dealings — until 6 sticks of dynamite exploded under his car, killing him. Marley sued a coalition of reporters — formed in response to Bolles’ assassination — for libel after they reported his ties to the mob and to Bolle’s murder. The jury ruled that Marley was NOT libeled.

Hensley (Cindy McCain’s father) and his brother were convicted in 1948 for falsifying records to conceal illegal sales of thousands of cases of liquor at Marley’s firm. Five years later, Jim Hensley was tried for falsifying tax records at Marley’s firm, but — defended by William Rehnquist, who was later Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court — he was acquitted.

The Hensley brothers also bought a New Mexico horse race track in 1952. A 1953 New Mexico State Police report expressed concern that the Hensleys were tied to Clarence “Teak” Baldwin, a “bookmaker for leading tracks”, and added that Kemper Marley “is reputed to be the financial backer for the bookies.” The report also stated that Marley “owned a wire service formerly operated in connection with bookmaking of the Al Capone gang.” The Hensley’s denied that Baldwin had a stake in the track, but 2 years later records showed Baldwin had a one-third stake in the track. Baldwin sued in 1955 over his share, and settled out of court for $40,000 (a lot of money then). Jim sold his share of the track in 1955; Eugene kept his until 1969 and served time for skimming funds from the track for personal use.

Arizona (which borders Nevada) has long had a serious mob presence, with many mafia men retiring there. In 1995, McCain sent birthday regards, and regrets for not attending, to Joseph “Joe Bananas” Bonanno, the “boss of bosses” and head of New York’s Bonanno crime family (one of the big 5 families), who had retired to Arizona. Another politician to send regrets was Governor Fife Symington, who has since been kicked out of office and convicted of 7 felonies relating to fraud and extortion.

And it shows how uninformed all too many voters are that anyone falls for Juan McCain's constant babble about "earmarks", which amount to $20 to $30 billion annually, only a fraction of one percent of our $3+ trillion annual budget.

Wonder what all these dupes and suckers supporting McCain will have to say if he wins, and then within months returns to his open borders, pro-amnesty, pro Cap and Trade, pro closing Gitmo, against tax cuts, etc., etc., and stabbing conservatives in the back at every opportunity.

That's what will happen, because that's how McCain has always conducted himself. He's no conservative on the big issues that remain for Obama. He'll help Obama "transform" America.

I was for JD before he made it official. I like Sarah, but she made a big mistake with McCain.

This poll is of ARIZONA republicans. They know that Hayworth has too much baggage and would be an easy target for attacks.

What specific poll are you referring to?

Why would you post anything that references the SPLC? It is common knowledge that they are a bunch of far left wing bats.

McCain is a total scumbag. Schill for him if you want, but most here know the truth.

I am with you 100%. If McCain wins the primary, many will support whoever is the Democrat just to get him out of office. His amnesty is a blow to this country. He has done more harm than many Democrats. He and Cindy are like gray haired Boris and Natasha.

From the story: “If McCain had a more conservative challenger, National Review wrote, the endorsement might have gone elsewhere. But while Hayworth’s record is conservative, the article read, it isn’t conservative enough to make a compelling case against McCain.”

Yeah, J. D.’s 97.5% lifetime ACU rating was just not sufficient to overtake McShame’s 81% in Never Relevant Opinion’s analysis.

From the story: “He may not be Marco Rubio, but he’s not Arlen Specter either,” the editorial said of McCain.

No, McShame is one of a kind—a backstabbing weasle who will turn on conservatives the day after the election, as he has always done in the past.

The voters get what they deserve. If they want to send a corrupt, creepy, backstabber like McShame back to D.C., so be it. I wouldn’t be as bothered about so idiotic a choice if it didn’t also affect citizens outside of Arizona.

If I was going to bet, I would bet that Mc Cain will be re-elected. In fact, it would not surprise me if the Republican Party re-nominated him in 2012 if he is still alive.

Like you said, the voters get what they deserve.

McCain has to win in order to support his daughter for Senate six years from now. He is spending millions to ensure that happens.

OK Batman, riddle me this: it is well known that McCain's suspension of his damn presidential campaign in 2008 to trot his demented ass back to Washington to vote for the Big Bailout, combined with his patronizing comments regarding Comrade Zero "America has nothing to fear from an 0bama Administration", et al, essentially threw the election to the Kenyan Usurper. McCain NEVER engaged and fought 0bama with the same ferocity he reserves for conservatives, particuarly J.D. Hayworth.

So answer us pal, is McCain, or is he not, responsible for putting 0bama in the White House due to his pathetic conduct as a candidate?

Yes or No.

Then, ask yourself again if Sarah Palin will be responsible for McCain returning to the Senate for another six year term thanks to her consistent and continuous campaigning and support for him in Arizona?

Your own sanity will be defined by how you answer.

........Arizonans are very put out with JD for his infomercial...........

JD needs to shout from the rooftops:

"I have a family to support. I needed a paycheck. That's why I did the infomercial."

You are not capable of defining others sanity, pal.

Only kooks and nutjobs believe Mccain’s political fortunes will have any effect on Sarah Palin, should she seek office in the future, pal.

The people of Arizona will be to blame should Juan win, pal.
