“college history teacher here

i contributed time and money to both of Reagan’s campaigns”

Yeah, well then you know that you are as scarce as a hen’s tooth. I was in administration, as the Ass’t to the Head and Dept. Supervisor of the Math Dept. at a major public (liberal) University here in Illinois. And believe me, I know very well the politics of the vast majority of the Professors at this University (and its downstate sister University) as I had 25 years to observe it. And as you well know, it is the same throughout the United States. There are the occasional good guys, usually at smaller, mainly private colleges, and I assume you are one of them, but you are few and far between, aren’t you.

i meet hundreds of college teachers every year from all over the world, and they fall into the same proportions as the rest of the population: 20% right/libertarian, 20% left, and the rest don’t care. that they all might be communists is faulty, prejudiced thinking, which is common enough.

i’ll admit there is a slight leftward bias in tenured staff, but not much. maybe to 30% or so, at least here in the South. i’ll get my opportunity to wrench that figure since i’m up for tenure soon...yipee!

technically, i’m a “university” teacher (due to creepy internet stalkers i won’t name which—but you’d recognize the name instantly). that’s important because we’re a BIG “elite” school, and i’ll admit to little contact with many smaller regional schools outside of technical conferences.
