Cops are searching for a Guatemalan man accused of brutally raping a 4-year-old girl in Springfield on Saturday while the victim’s mother was working on a blueberry farm in Connecticut.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Edilzar Mazariegos, 22, who is charged with aggravated rape of a child with force, said police Sgt. John Delaney. Mazariegos is also known as Edy Gonzales, Delaney said.
Police said the girl’s mother went to work at 8 a.m. on Saturday and returned at 5 p.m. when she found her daughter crying and bleeding.
The girl was taken to Mercy Hospital and then transported to the Baystate Medical Center, where she was treated for “severe trauma” and is listed in “serious condition,” Delaney said.
Mazariegos, who is an aquaintance of the victim’s mother, is 5 feet 3 inches with a heavy build, police said. He was last seen operating a blue Dodge Durango with two white racing stripes down the hood, police said.
The vehicle has a South Carolina license plate. The number is FSX-544, police said. The Durango also has a dented passenger door and a front novelty license plate with an eagle on it.
Mazariegos worked at a Connecticut farm and has to ties to Greenfield, Springfield, and West Palm Beach, Fla., police said. He has no arrest record in the United States and does not have a driver’s license, Delaney said.

He's driving a licensed vehicle but has no driver's license. So, who does the vehicle belong to? Has it been reported stolen? If so, why not? This is not a person we should play nice with.

This is strange. I worked with two brothers, last name Gonzales, Eddy and Jesse. Eddy raped his step daughter, about 10 yo. The police were after Eddy but his brother Jesse caught up to him first and almost killed him. Strange that two sex criminals, so far apart in time, would have the same name. BTW, Eddy and Jesse were here legally and this was many years ago. At the time they were both in their mid-twenties. Eddy went to jail for a long time and Jesse did about 30 days for assault. I worked with Jesse for about another 10 years and he never spoke his brother's name again.
