New Mexico has settled a lawsuit filed by advocacy groups last year over compliance with a law that lets people register to vote at various state agencies, including the Motor Vehicle Division when they get a driver's license.

The settlement will result in tens of thousands of people in the state being offered a chance to register to vote. ...

"The voter registration application needs to be a simultaneous part of every application for a driver's license ..." said Nicole Kovite, who heads the public agency voter registration project for Washington, D.C.-based Project Vote.

In New Mexico, that means that illegal aliens (who legally can get a NM driver's license) will be given a voter registration form at the same time.

In addition, remaining to be settled are charges that the NM Human Services Department did not distribute voter registration cards along with applications for public assistance such as welfare, food stamps and Medicaid. That is an effort by Project Vote to reach low-income citizens who are less likely to own vehicles.

Indeed. If illegals show up at MVD with a consular card from Mexico as their form of ID, they can get a drivers license. Then they can go to another state and use their NM license to get a legal license (though some states will not recognize licenses from NM without a birth certificate).

How can they possibly vote in the United States if they are not a legal (taxable) citizen?

I suspect that no one will check to see if their driver’s license was issued to an illegal, legal alien or citizen. They will just be given a form to fill out. There is nothing on a driver’s license to indicate citizenship.

Enough of this death by a thousand cuts crap. Why not just print 4.5 billion voter registration cards and mail them to every man, woman, and child in world. Wouldn’t that cut to the chase?

The first place Martinez will start is by seeking to repeal the law that allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. This law encourages illegal immigrants to come to New Mexico and makes it more difficult for law enforcement officials to determine if someone is here illegally. Repealing this law is a common-sense step towards securing our border.

Campaign platform of Republican candidate for Governor Susana Martinez.

Total BS. They two separate areas of life and have nothing in common. This BS is all about race and power.

So, do you think that if I travel abroad (State to State) I should take my Passport in addition to my NM Driver’s License?

NM licenses do not meet ID requirements for flying commercial airlines. The only way that the TSA accepts them is the Congress has passed legislation extending the start date of strict requirements for ID when flying.

J. Christian Adams is saying that one of the things the DOJ is refusing to do is enforce article 8 of the motor voter laws. Basically its supposed to remove all dead and ineligible voters.

Only if, under the fine print, there were provisions for weapon-confiscation, waiving of all "expectations of privacy," and wealth-confiscation/redistribution.
