Two Volunteers Charges in Bar Fight (Tennessee in deep trouble with NCAA)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Police are continuing to investigate an early morning bar brawl Friday allegedly involving a number of Tennessee football players that left an off-duty Knoxville police officer unconscious after being kicked repeatedly while he was on the ground.

Freshman receiver Da'Rick Rogers, one of the Volunteers' most heralded signees under first-year coach Derek Dooley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.

Also, sophomore safety Darren Myles Jr. was arrested and charged with assaulting a University of Tennessee police officer, as well as resisting arrest and evading arrest, according to an affidavit.

....

The Vols may end up having more than just legal problems, too. Sandy Morton, co-owner of Bar Knoxville, told The Chattanooga Times Free Press that the Tennessee football players received "VIP status" at their bar and didn't have to pay a cover.

NCAA rules stipulate that athletes aren't allowed to receive any extra benefits or special arrangements such as discounts at restaurants or bars.

This is bad news all the way around for Tennessee.

Their #1 recruit and starting Safety both in deep deep trouble, and according to local blogs a lot more charges for these two and a lot arrests (possibly 10 to 12 players involved) are coming.

Derek Dooley has inherited a cess pool from Lane Kiffin, and an already weak Tennessee team is about to get decimated. Going to be a very long season and probably 2-3 years in Knoxville.

Even more troubling for UT though is the Bar Owner's admission that UT Players get preferential treatment. UT is already under the NCAA microscope thanks to Kiffin's mouth and actions, and now the NCAA is going to fixate on them like Oprah on a Chocolate bar.

Could you fix the title please, Charges should read Charged. Thanks.

NCAA = 100% Obama lovers. These thugs need to go to jail for a long time but the slimy “fans” and alumni will bail them out.

Not to mention any number of them are underage.

Tennessee’s problem has become U.S.C.’s worst nightmare.
Kiffin is garbage and will bring disrepute where ever he takes his sad show.

Kiffin is scum. No doubt about that. But he was only there 1 year. All these problems with their program could not be his fault. He's probably responsible for some of the problems but not all. I seem to recall reading about problems at Tennessee for a long time. Tennessee is just one of many NCAA Div 1A programs who sold their soul a long time ago for a big time athletic program.

LOL.. Yeah, all of us UGA fans owe Mike and Nash Nance a debt of gratitude.

I have to wonder how long Nash keeps his scholarship if Da’Rick is booted from the team. Something tells me he will be ‘encouraged’ to transfer.

There is a reason why all players arrested in the SEC are referred to as member's of the FULMER ALL-STAR TEAM.

Just a tip, Sandy. Shut your dopey mouth and lawyer up quick next time.

"Well officer, we give these here underage boys the roy-yahl treatment and whatnot!"

Really stupid. Not stupid enough to name a baby "DaRick", but plenty stupid on its own.

I do not think that the NCAA should try to dictate, nor should it punish a university, for what a private business does or does not charge a particular university. I also don’t see why this should mean trouble for the university.

I can see that this individuals need to lawyer-up ASAP.

someone in the comments mentioned that it’s an 18+ bar. You can get in at 18, but you’re not supposed to be able to drink.

http://www.oakridger.com/sports/x41627751/2nd-Vols-player-arrested-after-bar-brawl

A second Tennessee player has been arrested in connection with a brawl at a bar near campus early Friday … and police say more could be facing charges.

The Knox County Detention Facility says rising sophomore defensive back Darren Myles Jr. was charged with assault, resisting arrest and evading arrest. He is being held on $2,000 bond.

It’s the second offseason arrest for the Atlanta native, who was recruited by former coach Lane Kiffin.

Incoming freshman receiver Da’Rick Rogers was charged earlier Friday with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The Calhoun, Ga., native was one of coach Derek Dooley’s top recruits.

Witnesses say two patrons got into a fight and several others joined in. An off-duty officer who was a patron suffered a head injury trying to break up the fight.

"It is a privilege, not a right, to be a member of the University of Tennessee football team," Dooley said in a statement.

This mindset needs to be contagious. Thanks for the Ping GOP
