My nosy neighbors is a “collections worker” for the census bureau, similar to what these callers are doing. Her job is to go door to door and collect employment information and other vital statistics, she complains that people are so rude to her and dont want to give out personal information.
Hell I’ve shut the door on her myself, she see’s me leave for work five days a week at the same time and asked if I was employed somewhere
btw her car is plaster with Obama stickers..
The census worker called my home number and asked if I resided at blah-blah-blah street (my address). I told her no.
They can look up your number, particularly if your number is listed anywhere like switchboard.com, superpages.com, 411.com etc.

I sent in my form (although I did not give my phone number) and yet they kept coming to my door. Different people on multiple occasions. I expected to have an argument over sending it back incomplete, but they just asked the basics about how many people in the house, etc. Now they are calling me on the phone and asking me the same thing again.
Either their tracking system is pathetic or we are getting counted over and over again.
Sounds to me like you got suckered by someone slithering under the radar.

No, the secretary was savvy enough to give no information but request a call back number. That 1-866 number is posted above and is a bonafide Census number.
Evidently the Census is also gathering a lot of personal information to build the case for univseral health care.
The Census isn’t allowed to get data from the IRS.
There is no centralized government computer database with all your information.
I have no faith in Census bureau methods or statistics.
I sent mine in months ago, and yesterday a little bubble-head $16 an hour idiot came knocking on my door. AS IF I would actually give her 10 minutes of my time on a SUNDAY!! She left a form and a phone # for me to call her. Like I am going to make a long distance call on MY dime to accommodate THEM?
