NBAA Protests Temporary Vegas Airport Ban (All general aviation was banned during Obama visit)
Aviation Week ^ | 07/10/2010 | Aviation Week

FAA has issued a Notice to Airman (NOTAM) that restricts all general aviation aircraft operations at the only three airports in and surrounding Las Vegas -- McCarran International (KLAS), Henderson (KHND) and North Las Vegas (KVGT) -- from 4:30 pm local time July 8 through 11:30 am July 9 to accommodate a visit by President Barack Obama.

In a letter yesterday to Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, National Business Aviation Association President Ed Bolen notes that Las Vegas airport is the seventh busiest in the country that serves a diverse business base across the southern half of Nevada. “Previously, the Secret Service, in coordination with the Department of Defense, FAA and Transportation Security Administration allowed for special egress and ingress routes for Henderson Airport and North Las Vegas Airport to allow general aviation aircraft access to the city during Presidential visits,” he wrote. “No considerations for these two airports appear in the list of restrictions.”

The three airports affected by the NOTAM represent nearly 90% of all aircraft traveling to or from Nevada, wrote Bolen. “The NOTAM would restrict almost 50% of

normal traffic operations at the three Las Vegas airports,” he continued. “Shutting down general aviation access will absolutely affect business in the area and beyond the city.”

Bolen noted the need to protect the President. “However, such overly broad

and unsophisticated restrictions as the one released [yesterday] morning which will ground all general aviation traffic for nearly a day sends a loud and unwelcome message to the businesses based in Las Vegas and those needing to travel to Las Vegas for business,” he stated.

Bolen urged Napolitano to reconsider the “punitive restrictions” on general aviation and work with the GA specialists at the TSA and FAA to craft acceptable procedures that retain the necessary security for the President while also facilitating access to one of the nation’s most important cities.

But you see, he is King. that is why it is needed to close all three airports in the city for something on the order of 21 hours.

Does everyone remember when Bill Clinton got his $400 haircut on the tarmac at Los Angeles international Airport, thereby closing down The airport for four hours?

Well, the same thing applies here I guess.

The sheer conceited audacity of the libs never ceases to amaze.

They feel that their innate “goodness” and the fact that they “care” so deeply for the proletariat gives them such moral superiority that anything else they do must not only be tolerated, it must be seen as their just due — a small repayment for their valiant efforts on the behalf of the unwashed masses.

So Obama took his flying circus to ‘Vegas to help Harry and Hurt the City.

There will come a time that his mentally-deranged faithful will start to question their allegiance, maybe.

Las Vegas would seem to me a great place for Mullah Obama. Just like the city, he is nothing but fake, phoney, gold plated junk.

Obammy could have landed at one of many military airports in the area and taken a copter to wherever he needed without affecting G.A.

I live here in Maryland , and the Presidential Royal plane leaves and arrives here probably 5 times a week. He never lets it set mores than a couple of days on the ground.

Andrews flies the thing in and out with no problems as far as I know. We have several airports around Washington that don’t close every time The One takes off and lands , or flies his royal helicopter over to the Golf course or Camp David.

Why do this at Las vegas?

“FIrst time in history such a shut down has occurred”

Happens within 30 miles of every place that airplane goes...for every President and not just the Kenyan. It is retared to say the most. These TFRs are annoying and useless.

What is the threat presented by vehicle traffic, why not shut it down when the great leader is in town? Those pedestrians also would seem to be a big threat also. It’s good to be the king.

He supposedly raised some 800 large for Dingy during his visit. How much did it cost to fly AF1 and his circus staff and who paid for it? All the chopper and fixed wing tours were grounded for 2 days while Obozo the clown was in town. Aside from blaming Bush in the 2 speeches he gave, he wants to “invest” 5 billion more into green energy grants. Most in attendance were lapdog union workers and party big shots. His remarks were highly partisan and designed to fire up his base.
