The nations leading public-sector employees union will launch a newspaper advertising campaign this weekend to pressure centrist Senate Republicans to support increased federal aid to states.
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees will spend $175,000 on newspaper ads targeting Maine Sens. Olympia Snowe (R) and Susan Collins (R) and Sens. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio).
The union is bracing for a major cut in public-sector jobs over the next year as states and cities scramble to balance their budgets. Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moodys Economy.com, predicted earlier this week that as many as 400,000 workers could lose their jobs in the next year.

Libertarian ping
Go ahead and save govt. jobs and lose your own.
“Go ahead and save govt. jobs and lose your own.”
Good one. Georve Voinovich, one of the targets, is retiring.
$175k being spent over a loss of 400,000 jobs says that the union isn’t very serious about publicizing the losses.
Republicans should simply point out that the unions don’t believe that the economy has been turned around by 0bama.

You mean they left out Grahamnesty and McCain? McCain will naturally join them AFTER the primary and election, but little Lindsey isn’t running this year! He’s be a NATURAL target for the left!!!
George Voinovich (R-Ohio)
What a joke! He might as well ‘Specter’.
Teddy Strickland is coming to my neck of the woods today. I have a sign for the guy.
No one should be compelled to join a union.
No one should be compelled to hire or retain union member employees, or purchase union made products.
These are violations of fundamental liberty.
Why should Republicans help them? They’ll just run ads against these same Republicans in the fall anyway.
Labor gives all their money to Democrats. There is no reason for Republicans to bow to them.
Yeah, that really shows the unions’ non-partisan stance on things. Thanks Clintonfatigued.
Saved the link and will add to ‘Digging deep’ in Monster Ping. Thank you.
