Mel Gibson's mainstream Hollywood career is over -- for real, this time
L.A Times ^ | July 9th, 2010

It's interesting to try to divine the chicken-and-egg of Mel Gibson's firing by WME last week: Was it his (first-alleged, now aurally proved) misogynistic and racist comments that enabled the agency to part ways with him, or was it the death of longtime agent Ed Limato that did the trick?

Earlier today the news surfaced that William Morris Endeavor had split with Gibson last week-- as Limato lay seriously ill, and just several days after Radar Online broke the news that Gibson had verbally abused his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva by using the N-word. (The reports were just that until today, when audio of the Gibson incident was released on Radar.)

There's of course a third variable in all this -- the fact that Gibson just wasn't much of a bankable star anymore anyway.

Ah, you have pulled out one of the few... good for you - you actually know! Yes, there are a few, but hard to find.

Jon Voigt is an excellent example of the few that still believe in the Constitution. Thank you (not that I did not know that), but the exceptions are so far and few in-between.

“More media trash from the LA Slimes trying to destroy a mans career.”

If you have evidence that the LA Times forged the tape on Mel Gibson ranting about the mother of his child being raped by a bunch of “N!663rs” that may help Mel.

Much as I like Mel Gibsom as an actor, he hasn’t been acting very Christian, lately.

You only have to go to America’s Universities and you will hear Anti-Semitic epithets thrown to any conservative *Professor*

“I’m tired of this one-way crap...what’s good for the goose, is good for the Amish.”

I’m with you. Gibson’s been under attack for years, especially for Passion. But, since he’s an evil white male, he’s expected to be held to an impossibly higher standard than, say, Snoop Dogg or Lisa Lampinelli. Gibson’s excesses are certainly not unusual for the cesspool that is Hollywood, but in his case, the LA Times just can’t wait to declare his career dead.

I will always be in awe of Braveheart, and more importantly, The Patriot. These stunning works mean much more to me than him using the “N word” in a private conversation or getting drunk and calling a cop a “Jay Oh Oh” while under the influence.

Let’s get a grip.

Because he used the N word in a heated argument? LOL! Is black now a federally protected color? I didn’t realize Hollywood was so thin skinned. 1984 we are here.

To use the radical feminist analogy: Mel Gibson needs Hollywood like a fish needs a bicycle.

His estimated net worth is between $800m and $1b. For him to even bother with heavily indebted California and their unions would double the cost of making a movie about anywhere else. And he doesn’t even need to mess with a distributor or theater chains.

There are large parts of the Christian world where extras would pay him for the chance to be part of a crowd in one of his movies.

Seriously, what can Hollywood offer him?

No he hasn’t...He needs to get himself right with G-D again and start over...One article states he is spending isolation time with a Catholic Priest, who is advising him.

Yeah, I agree. He’s the only one I could come up with.

And I would venture to say that Voigt’s career might have been more stellar had he joined with the liberal trash. It’s possible that by being more conservative, his career in Whorey-wood wasn’t what it could have been.

Very talented actor by the way. Whorey-wood doesn’t know talent anymore; only politics.

Even if what you say is true, does that excuse Mel’s actions?

Like most of society he's been programmed for selective outrage.

I wince when I read this kind of stuff about people I admire, but I have a hard time getting really p*ssed off when I see hate directed at non-preferred groups every day and no one bats an eye.

Radar Online broke the news that Gibson had verbally abused his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva by using the N-word.

Sounds like he has a lot of potential as a rap "artist."

One point: I don't remember the LA Times declaring Alec Baldwin's career over when he called his daughter a "pig" among other things on tape. Baldwin's career seems to be doing just fine.

Not to excuse a crazy movie star's ugly rants, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is a double standard at work here...

No it does not..It does however speak of the *HUGE* hypocrisy in liberalism...

They are trying to *Break* Mel Gibson for his words, something they would *NEVER* do to a liberal...never...

The guy is bipolar.

Not many people have as much experience as I do, living with someone who has a severe form of the illness.

I can absolutely tell you, this is completely CLASSIC behavior for this illness. To a T. You could cut and paste Gibson’s picture in the dictionary under “bipolar”.

The problem is, in my situation we removed power from the bipolar individual because there was just too much risk of legal problems. Unfortunately, no one is able to tell Mel what to do.

I’m disappointed in him, but who wouldn’t suffer if a significant other recorded a private argument?

While Mel may be bipolar, that does not excuse his actions.

I’m not sure if Alec Baldwin has been in any big movies since his telephone rant to his daughter, but I do know that few here on FR defended Alec Baldwin for that incident.

However, there are plenty of people here that will defend Gibson for his Anti-Semitic, violent and racist rants.
