Mika: ‘Cut The Crap’ On Whether Palin’s Running—’She Is’
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 07/12/2010 4:43:10 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Mika Brzezinski wants to "cut the crap" when it comes to building speculation as to whether Sarah Palin will run for president in 2012. According to Mika, Palin's candidacy is a done deal, and the press is letting itself be sucked into a phony build-up.

Mika is so sure that Sarah is running that on today's Morning Joe she was willing to wager a dubious Jonathan Capehart $1,000. Brzezinski's comments came in response to Politico's report, highlighted by Mike Allen, that Palin has raised significant money and built a nascent campaign staff.

Quitting as Govenor of Alaska (before finishing her first term) was the death knell for her political career.

Of course, staying on as Governor of Alaska and feeding herself to the leftist frivolous ethics complaint shredder would have been the death of her political career, her economic future and her mental well-being.

Not to mention the fact that any mud they slung at her would taint the Alaskan republicans and national conservatives in general.

Sometimes even Patton and MacArthur had to retreat, temporarily.

Isn't it smarter to survive and fight than submit and die?

Come on. She would have “survived” as Alaska governor. And she would have been stronger and more respected for it.

“While she and Obama are from opposite sides of the political spectrum, they are both “rock stars”. That is my main objection to her.”

You're right. We need someone like Mitt or T-Paw who can draw upwards of 30 people/s

Palin was de facto drafted by the American people to enter national politics as VP candidate. Once she made that choice she had her 'hat in the ring' and with ever increasing support she moved on setting the ground work for a presidential run.

Plan B was build a strong conservative opposition to the Democrats and get rich to boot.

Now that's what I call 'fire in the belly'. Right now, she has no match.

Patton on ‘holding a position’...

“We are advancing constantly and we’re not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy.
We’re going to hold onto him by the nose and we’re going to kick him in the ass.
We’re going to kick the hell out of him all the time
and we’re going to go through him like crap through a goose.”

I agree with you, but I think Hillary will challenge Obama in 2012 if his numbers and political fortunes continue to decline.

Those quotes are from Hollywood.

Read Ike's autobiography to get an idea of the ass-kicking the Allies took in the beginning from Rommel.

What a waste of Sarah that would be.
I trust Sarah. She will do the right thing for her and the rest of us whether anyone likes it or not.

Come on. She would have “survived” as Alaska governor. And she would have been stronger and more respected for it.

Come on. She would have been mired in corruption charges as Alaska governor. And she would have been weaker and poorer and diminished politically.

Where we can agree, is that she's no Reagan.

It's a shame that the most intelligent and articulate champion of conservatism America has now is a Canadian (Mark Steyn.)

Fred Thompson had a different, but similar issue—he wanted the GOP nomination handed to him on a silver platter without working for it.

Creative comparison. While I think Fred would have been a good president, and I voted for him in the primaries, he had some talent in a debate but no skill at all in delivering political speeches. Fred, unfortunately, was an even weaker campaigner than McCain and had no chance to win. In contrast, Sarah Palin may be the best political speaker in our country today. The nomination is not being handed to her. The Dems in power hate her and fear her. The RINOs in power hate her and fear her. The vast majority of those in the media hate her and fear her. No one wants her to win . . . except for Americans who support the Constitution. She's not the best candidate imaginable, nor will she be the best president imaginable, but she can win and she will be better in office than anyone else in the picture today. I'd like to find someone even better, but at least for now she has my vote.

What a waste of Sarah that would be

Why would you say that? Why does it HAVE to be the presidency when Sarah is concerned?

People were calling for Scott Brown to be the Rep nominee the DAY after he was elected to the Senate.

"Quitting as Govenor of Alaska (before finishing her first term) was the death knell for her political career."

Death knell, really? Sorry, this is an old talking point with not much meaning in the present.

The difference is that both Patton and MacArthur were very, very, very intelligent men.

After five grueling years the ordeal of West Point ended on June 11, 1909 when Patton was commissioned as a second lieutenant of cavalry. His final class standing was number 46 out of the total of 103 who graduated. (21) If that seemed average, it was not, for had it not been for his dyslexia he undoubtedly would have graduated near the top of his class.

MacAuther graduated first and his father wore the medal of Honor.

Compare and contrast.

I think we're getting a little too far out on the analogy gangplank.

All I'm saying is that great generals sometimes have to retreat on the battlefield to win the greater war.

And Palin may "retreat" from the political front to win the greater battle.

Look at Ronald Reagan, for example. Started as a DEMOCRAT for crying out loud!

Those quotes are from Hollywood.

Indeed... and this?....

"I don't want to get any messages saying, 'I am holding my position.' We are not holding a Goddamned thing. Let the Germans do that. We are advancing constantly and we are not interested in holding onto anything, except the enemy's balls. We are going to twist his balls and kick the living shit out of him all of the time. Our basic plan of operation is to advance and to keep on advancing regardless of whether we have to go over, under, or through the enemy. We are going to go through him like crap through a goose; like shit through a tin horn!"

Patton's Speech to the Third Army was a speech given by General George S. Patton to troops of the U.S. Third Army on June 5, 1944, the day before D-day. Patton delivered variations of the speech on several different occasions to his troops, although the June 5 date is the most well known. No hard copy of the speech existed, so all of the published versions are from the notes of audience members. It has since become immortalized in George C. Scott's rendition in the movie Patton, where he delivers it in front of a large American flag. Patton's actual words were so colorful that the movie edited and toned down the language. Certain phrases from the speech were also used in Scott's dialogue later on in the film.
