Proving that there is no folly fallacious enough that it can't be written down, both in a book and in an oped in the Washington Post, Stan Cox, an agricultural scientist, has proposed to ban or greatly restrict air conditioning.

"Air conditioning, it seems, causes everything from global warming to obesity to sexual dysfunction to capitalism to irate people in red states who cling to their Bibles and guns to big government." From the article
Believe me, those irate people in red states who cling to their Bibles and guns will be a lot more irate without air conditioning. :)

That’s what I was afraid of. Our Overlords will stay comfortably cool, while we are miserable and on our way to heatstroke. This guy is a Luddite of the first order, and right up there with the people who ruined our toilets and who are attempting to do away with plastic shopping bags. A plague on their houses.

Remember all the whining and hand wringing when some elderly people succumbed to the heat wave in Chicago a few years ago? Is the left again calling for the elimination of those who inconvenience their agenda?

Tell the idiot to go turn off his electricity and sweat in the dark. There were anti-technology twits like this guy in the 18th Century...Luddites. Luckily for us, our ancestors ignored them.

Stan is a moron, but AC is a luxury, not a necessity.True, but it is a luxury I pay for out of my own pocket. Stan can go take a long walk off a short pier.

Perhaps someone should swing by where Stan llives and makes sure his building does not have central air. I’d imagine living higher up than the first floor in a high rise might be just a tad uncomfortable without it?

I have those curly light bulbs all in my house. They suck in ceiling fans. They do not work well in cold, like on the porch in winter. They don’t last as long as they say they will, they cost ten times as much and they don’t make a bright light. Other than that they are okay..........

The problem with stupid liberal morons like this is that they have waaaaay too much time on their hands.

No A/C for government buildings - politicians homes or cars. No A/C for Greens, code pink, ACLU, NOW, PhDs at Ivy League schools, apartment dwellers in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, New York etc.,

If it was a necessity, all those people who lived there in the 1940’s wouldn’t have been able to do so. It’s a luxury.

The area was populated before air-conditioning and people did alright. Not in high rise building where the windows don't even open.
The growth of the 'Sun Belt' is a direct result of air conditioning.

A better idea. The limitations concerning A/C would only apply to the gov't. Other than the military, the gov't would not be allowed to use A/C. To further control the gov't bureaucrats (management levels and higher), they along with members of Congress will be required to wear business formal with long sleeve shirts, dark colored suit jackets and slacks. Additionally they cannot take their suit jackets off during the day except for meal breaks.
This also begs the question, what about computer rooms used by the private sector ? I know servers can put out a lot of heat,
From the Article: So, an attempt to ban air conditioning for all but "necessary purposes" (like Congress and the White House) would not exactly be beyond the pale. Indeed, opponents of Cap-and-Trade should remain vigilant, lest such a ban be slipped into the legislation.

Maybe it’s all part of the Obamacare plan...kill off the old people in the summer to reduce costs. Providing medical coverage for illegals, one dead grandma at a time. You know...just taking the lives Americans don’t want to live.

The government should ban, the government should restrict, the government should control, the government should regulate, the government should deny, the government should tax, the government should nationalize... (fill in the rest of the sentence with any private sector area)
Some people insist and DEMAND that we live under tyranny.

Some air conditioning may be a necessity in some areas. People can adapt to temperatures in the eighties both outside and inside. But people who get used to air conditioning in the low seventies at home, in cars, at work, and out shopping never adapt.
Indoor temperatures near 70 is an expensive waste of energy. I’ve been to shopping malls where summer air conditioned temperatures seemed lower than winter heating temperatures. Eighty degrees is entirely sufficient for air conditioning. The way to get there is to have peak electricity use for air conditioning be very expensive.
To: Marcus
My question is does old Stanley have A/C in his car, his office, his home?
Someone should drive by this guys work and house and see if he has an A/C unit outside. Although he might not have an outdoor unit it is worth the ride to see if someone can embarrass him.
