“U.S. Spent $410,624 on Project to Teach Chinese Meditation to Cocaine Addicts”

SNIPPET: “(CNSNews.com) - The U.S. government has spent $410,625 to study the effects of teaching Chinese meditation to cocaine addicts.
Our clinical experience and pilot studies suggest that Integrative Meditation (IM) from Chinese medicine may help clients engage in treatment, reduce cravings/withdrawal symptoms, and increase treatment retention, which appear missed by a typical behavior therapy, says the official description of the project published by the National Institutes of Health.
IM is an adaptation or simplified form of mindfulness meditation, says the description. It may enhance existing therapies to help reduce withdrawal symptoms, increase treatment engagement, and prevent relapse through step-by-step therapist facilitation.
The study, which is titled Treatment of Cocaine Addiction with Integrative Meditation, received $225,000 in tax money in 2009 and $185,625 in 2010, for a total of $410,625. The project was scheduled to run from April 1, 2009 until March 31, 2011. The grant was issued by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a division of the NIH.”
..the head Muslim in charge is seeing to it.
Look for more and more politicization of government funding of research. It’s been happening. It will get worse.
Obama is desperate now—he is trying anything to generate positive polls and regenerate support and it isn’t working.
If we can move ahead with a lot of selected teacher lay-offs we could stop the liberal brainwashing of our kids.
How long has Graham been in Congress?
You think he would know by now that Congress has the power of the purse.
Obama can either sign the budget or veto it but individual appropriations are beyond his power.
"A House appropriations bill calls for a $2-billion reduction in emergency funds, with the money going to help prevent teacher layoffs. Experts criticize what they call a lack of foresight."
Why dont they just stop pretending to write budgets?
They dont have the money to pay for anything; the government is broke. Just write a budget that has everybodys wish list in it and invent the money to pay for it?
They know that they are going to do it any way. Stop pretending.
Unfortunately, as I found out, conservative teachers are the first to go. If you expect the system to cull the liberals, you have been smoking way too much... The ones with the Obama bumper stickers will keep their jobs, the cars with no bumper stickers will be let go.. Because if you aren’t a self professed liberal, you are a conservative in their eyes.
Of course they have to spend the emergency funds. They don’t have any more Social Security money to spend.
I imagine this headline will look quite striking in retrospect. Regrettably politicians will always prefer to raid the Defense Cookie Jar rather than risk drawing funds away from their own pet projects and sycophantic earmarks. Inevitably such greed and shortsightedness will end up costing LIVES when (not if) bombs start dropping; history shows us as much.
As an aside, a quotation from the above article struck me as equally shortsighted — “The probability of such an event is low...” The probability of such an event occurring is not low, it is certain: as it has already happened. Have we so quickly and easily forgotten the amateurish Anthrax mailings that occurred in the wake of the September 11th attacks? I’d say it’s merely a matter of time before something more sophisticated and devastating comes along.
