O'Malley v. Brewer(liberal sanctuary Maryland vs Arizona)
Baltimore Sun ^ | July 13, 2010 | Our View

Posted on 07/13/2010 5:48:06 AM PDT by sickoflibs

Subtitle Summary:(Our view: Democrats feeling the heat over Arizona's draconian immigration law must take a principled stand and refuse to pander to immigrant-bashing and racial profiling)

The debate over Arizona's mean-spirited (and probably unconstitutional) immigration law — and the Obama Justice Department's lawsuit seeking to overturn it — is starting to hit home here in Maryland.

Gov. Martin O'Malley will co-chair a National Governors Association panel on homeland security and public safety issues with none other than Gov. Janice K. Brewer of Arizona, champion of that state's new law that encourages police to check the immigration status of people they arrest. At the same time, The New York Times reported that Mr. O'Malley was among a number of Democratic governors who "voiced apprehension" about the federal lawsuit during a private meeting, although he publicly supported the administration's action in fighting Arizona's law.

Mr. O'Malley may be feeling caught in a bit of a bind — wanting to stand behind President Barack Obama and feeling that Arizona's law is morally wrong, but fearing that this issue could play to the disadvantage of Democrats (including him) in November's elections.

He should cast his doubts aside. Arizona's law is misguided and shameful, and anyone with a conscience, regardless of party, needs to stand up and clearly say so. It makes being an illegal immigrant in Arizona a state offense and requires local police to determine the immigration status of people they stop for other reasons if they have a "reasonable suspicion" the person may be in the country illegally.

Maryland under O Malley was well known to illegals as a home to get driver's licenses with a foriegn ID(no green card required) .

To counter the Federal Real ID act O Malley actually proposed a special drivers license for illegals that would not require a check of legal status that could not be used to board airlines. He also rammed through with democrat votes only the largest tax increase in Maryland history.

This may just be a dream but it would be nice to defeat O Malley in November. He is one of the most dishonest politicans I have seen, right up there with Obama.

” He also rammed through with democrat votes only the largest tax increase in Maryland history. “

And the truly wealthy are leaving Maryland in droves!

The 3 to 20 million dollar homes go begging for buyers.

It is Maryland who is undermining American sovereignty.

The AZ law is in no way “mean spirited” as it is less restrictive than the Federal law, which is not being enforced.

U.S. “policy” is “supposed” to be established by the law as it stands. Since AZ is compliant with existing law, it can’t reasonably be deemed unconstitutional.

...correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t MD one of the first states to do the ‘motor voter’ program?...thus the illegal invader could get a driver’s license and a voter registration card at the same time.

Really? I consider myself a person with a conscience and I totally support the AZ law because it's doing what the Feds are supposed to do in the first place. Good thing I'm not President...I'd build towers every two miles along the border, put a Marine sniper in each tower with shoot-to-wound orders. Captured illegals would have a big "I" tattooed on their forehead and then sent back to Mexico. If the sniper sees a target with a big "I" on the forehead, the rules of engagement change instantaneously. How's that for no conscience?

Politicians don’t really have time to mow their lawns or do their laundry. It might have been considered a necessity to motor-votor. They’re just hoping no one will notice (one way to notice: see the population of really nice homes depicted in TV shows set in and around Washington. They all have Latino/Hispanic servants)

RE :” Stopped reading right there

Then you missed this part:
At the same time, The New York Times reported that Mr. O’Malley was among a number of Democratic governors who “voiced apprehension” about the federal lawsuit during a private meeting, although he publicly supported the administration's action in fighting Arizona's law. “

I have to admit that I was shocked that on paper at least, it became illegal to issue driver's licenses to illegals in Maryland. Granted, when the law was passed illegals were given a 3 month window between the signing of the law and its entering into force to get driver's licenses that are valid for 5 years.

To be honest though, I do not know how well these requirements are or are not being enforced now that the law is fully in place.

MD is facing a revolt by residents of its peninsula, DELMARVA. Residents have long sought separate state status. Politically DELMARVA is conservative and agrarian. It is chopped up by MD, DEL and VA, all liberal wastelands.

Maryland under O Malley was well known to illegals as a home to get driver's licenses with a foriegn ID(no green card required).

North Carolina has done essentially the same thing, issuing illegals driver's licenses. That creates a problem for the non-issuing state, VA, that is sandwiched between these two sanctuary states.

Your reference to VA pertains to the NORTHERN half of the state, I presume?

VA, a liberal wasteland? You must be talking about WEST Virginia.

Seeing as how Obama has publicly stated that he wants to destroy the coal industry, any GOP presidential candidate worth his or her salt should be able to carry West Virginia easily.

When the new math becomes
Illegal Immigration Equals Negative [Jobs, Taxes, Emergency Services, Security]
Then O'Malley and company will not have a leg to stand on, even a Federal lawsuit.
