Obama a one-term president? Highly unlikely at this point
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 7/13/10 | Jay Bookman

I get a kick out of all these pronouncements that Barack Obama is doomed to be a one-term president. In fact, I’d put his odds of re-election at this point at roughly 2-1 in favor, for several reasons.

One is history.

In the second year of his presidency, Obama’s job approval rating is hovering in the high 40s. The most recent Rasmussen numbers have him at 49 percent approval, 50 percent disapproval. Gallup’s numbers are 47/46. Given the troubled economy, those are actually very strong numbers. For example, compare them to Ronald Reagan’s numbers in 1982, which was the Gipper’s second year in the White House at a time of significant if less traumatic economic turmoil.

As Gallup notes:

“The public’s view of the economy remained sour, and the president’s ratings during 1982 stayed concomitantly low, in the 40% range, ending the year at 41%. The 1982 midterm elections were not good ones for Reagan and for the GOP. The Republicans lost about 25 seats in the House.”

Obama’s numbers are considerably stronger than those of Reagan at a comparable time in his presidency. In fact, by the beginning of 1983, Reagan’s job-approval numbers fell to 35 percent, yet as we all know he went on to defeat Walter Mondale in a landslide in 1984, pulling 59 percent of the vote compared to Mondale’s 41 percent.

I find it hard to believe that the independent vote would go to this empty suit a second time.

Exactly.

Reagan was a true patriot who loved America.

Obama is a communist nightmare who hates America....he listened to the nutjob ravings of “Reverend” Wright for 20 years, which helped to pollute his mind.

I can’t think of two individuals more opposite than Reagan and Obama.

The prospect of a President Biden is positively entertaining for me. He’s an incompetent white guy. No reason for the press to hold their fire when that loony toon speaks out.

Then there was the Reagan recovery. You folks at the Urinal keep forgetting that.

Despite being totally incompetent, and arrogant in his ignorance, it is not inconceivable that 0bama, with ACORN's help, could come out on top for re-election.

0bamao has a "core constituency" of around 25% that will vote for him even if he were to admit that he is the devil's spawn;
The GOP under Michael Steele and the other so-called "leaders" have not demonstrated they can effectively blunt him.

Never say "Never". That is precisely why we must ensure that he presents VALID proof that he is a natural born citizen, before his name is placed on the ballot. He has usurped the office too long now.

Yes.

Sadly, in the most free, most opportunity rich country in history, this is now the fulcrum on which elections turn.

It has little to do with Zero’s incompetence, open racism, and anti-American activities, white Union slobs (as just one example.....its not even worth discussing the lockstep idiocy of blacks and Jews), will continue to vote Communist if it means punishing the “rich” and protecting their unearned goodies.

He better make it full term for the sake of this country— unless you know someone who knows something that would effectively put him out of office legally.

That’s it in a nutshell. Both Reagan and Obama faced/face a crushed economy and both set out policies to correct it. We know the outcome of Reagan’s leadership, and by 2012 we’ll have a verdict on the left wing approach.

People need to stop comparing Obama to Reagan as far as approval numbers because of this one clear fact:

Reagan’s Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981 was not enacted until 1983, so the first two years was a washed.....Obama’s “stimulus reinvestment act” Started in a few months after he took office in 2009 and is about to finish in later this year in 2010 and things is get worse

pulling 59 percent of the vote compared to Mondale’s 41 percent.

This doesn't tell the real story of 1984. The final electoral score was 525-13.

Actually what will propel him to a second term will be the fact that the house and the senate, in republican hands, will hold in check the O’s mad dash to the left, which will bring a stabilizing effect to the economy and a host of other issues. Unfortunately, this will redound his favor and the electorate, gullible as they are, will say, “hey, things are getting better, lets not rock the boat, let this guy stay in office.”
I remember back when I was smoking pot, I thought how screwed up the world would be if everybody was on drugs. Well here we are, all screwed up...

Jay Bookman....LOL! He and Cynthia Tucker have locked themselves in the cockpit of the Atlanta Journal and are determined to crash it into the ground. Not unlike our current Regieme, actually.

“Gee, let’s alienate the people with money who can read and throw the whole editorial weight of the newspaper behind the impoverished illiterates so we can feel good about ourselves and sip a little Chablis in the gallery lofts of the intelligentsia.” Great business plan, AJC board!

He can't run for a second term.

Arizona, at the very least, will demand a birth certificate. More states are likely to follow suit.

Besides, he never planned on a second term. The Cloward-Piven plan was to inflict the maximum amount of damage in the minimum amount of time.

Mission accomplished!

They're on crack!

Obama's re-election might be plausible with the kind of economic recovery typical since the Great Depression. However, Obama's economic policies are designed to repeat the errors that lead to the Great Depression. The policies did not work for Hoover/Roosevelt, haven't worked for the Japanese for the past 18 years, and won't work now. We will not see a booming economic recovery begin until January 20, 2013.

I think Biden would be orders of magnitude better. Even the democrats know he is a buffoon, and he would accomplish nothing. He is a gaffe prone screw up.

Obama is a stone cold Marxist foreigner who is convinced of his savior status, much like one Adolph Hitler. He also holds the United States constitution in contempt, for its restrictions placed on governmental power.

Sky’s the limit for Obama.
