“or maybe Arizona Republicans believe JD is a buffoon.”

He’d be far more likely to oppose Democrats on the big issues than McCain! McCain runs as a conservative 1 year out of 6. He votes against the Democrats when his vote won’t affect the outcome, and with them anytime it is important. Everyone ought to understand by now that McCain WANTS amnesty for illegals. He WANTS anything that will make the NYT like him.

Vote for him if you will, but I would as soon see a democrat from Arizona as vote for McCain. At least with a democrat senator, we won’t be giving cover for other GOP Senators to bolt to the other side! If McCain wins the primary, I’m voting democrat this fall.

We were well on our way to getting a closed primary, but McCain called in his chits and got it postponed until AFTER this election. That means this primary is OPEN.

Sometimes you have to do things like that.

I did support McCain a LOT in ‘08 after the primaries, but I sure had mixed feelings about it.

What are the Arizona laws on primary voting? Is it possible that a large number of Democrats are crossing over to support Juan?

I researched this a couple of months ago. No, registered Dims cannot crossover and vote for McCain in the Republican primary. But those registered as Independents can vote in any primary they chose. I forget the exact percentages, but there are around 30% or so percent of Arizonans registered as Dim, Republican and Independent. Pretty even.

So, the question is how many actual Dims or Republicans are registered as Independents so they can crossover and make mischief in another party's primary?

And, Independents cannot vote in the Libertarian primary races. The Libertarian won that exception, as they as so small that crossovers could totally dominate their voting if they ever want to do that.

Hey Will...opensecrets.org uses the FEC website to compile its info...it’s pretty accurate...I’ll check out JD’s website...hopefully the recent polling is not as bad as it looks, although I would think at this time he is down between 10%-15%...that’s a lot to make up, but it can be done...magritte

I’ll check out JD’s website..

Not sure you'll find anything on his site now. The first million was raised during March, with maybe a little spillover into April. The second million was reached a couple of weeks ago, so the two million dollar drives were in different quarters of 2010.

McCain did his service to his country—and from most accounts from his years in prison, he was doing the best he could......

He’s earned it-—RETIRE MR. MCCAIN-—SERVE YOUR COUNTRY WELL ONE MORE TIME! Get out of the contest!

We know we're already scr*wed because it's an open primary. Who came up with that brilliant idea? For me, the devil I know is the devil I will not "hold my nose and vote for" ever again. Made that mistake already and was thanked (in just a matter of weeks) with a Gang of 14 deal.

McCain has been spending millions on radio advertising. Every morning I hear another obnoxious ad and I turn the radio off. Funny... didn't hear a peep out of the guy criticizing Obama during THAT race. From the way he's attacking Hayworth, you'd think Hayworth was a communist, racist, clueless, inexperienced community activist of questionable citizenship and shady background. Oh wait... if Hayworth was all that, McCain would be going easy on him.

I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I honestly am considering voting for the Democrat over McCain if he wins the primary. At least that guy will be a junior senator and the media won't be throwing rose petals at his feet. Yet. All my other conservative friends and family are saying they just won't vote if McCain wins the primary.

Closed primaries here.

But the populace is enslaved to the liberal rag, the Arizona Repulsive.

Not really a closed primary if Independents can vote in either, is it? If I were in Arizona, I'd register as an Independent under these circumstances. Then I would vote in whichever primary I thought would make the most difference. I'm surprised they don't have 60% or 70% registered Independents under these circumstances.

This means McCain can win with only 40% or so of the registered GOP voters if he gets an overwhelming share of Indies (including RATs posing as Indies). Not good at all. Hopefully, JD can close the gap in the debates.

If not, I would be sorely tempted to vote Dem in the fall just so McCain couldn't use the GOP fig leaf to promote cap and trade, amnesty and all the other RAT agenda.

Of course, it would depend on the Dem. A small turd like Ben Nelson of Nebraska would be palatable. A big one like Boxer or Reid would not.

What is with Republicans that they hang onto these old farts so often?

It's not that he's an "old fart" but that he's a communist fart. Give me a 90 year old who is a staunch conservative any day.

The data you had must have been first quarter only. Here is the FEC data on JD as of 3/31/2010. $1,074,189 raised and #392,711 disbursed. The must not have the second quarter yet, where he raised another million+.

This coming from CNN? The financially-troubled Arizona Republic newspaper? I have no faith in their reporting whatsoever. McCain will lose this election, no matter how the media tries to drum up support for him.

* Nah, Indies can’t vote in either primary. Believe me, I used to be a deputy recorder. *

I hope Arizonans aren’t expecting any help from the rest of us when the feds crackdown on them over immigration. If they are dumb enough to reelect McCain once again, they deserve everything they get.

Those registered without a party preference can vote in the state sponsored primaries (like this one). They can vote either Republican or Democrat.

They cannot vote in the Presidential Preference Elections which are party sponsored.

Exactly how I feel. He'll vote Liberal, then the media will beat the drum about how Marxist policies have been rammed down our throats with "bipartisan" support. If it comes down to "Maverick" and an unknown Dem who doesn't have media rockstar status, I'm either voting for the other guy or just not voting. Because seriously, what is the difference? Either way we're gonna get it in the backside. McCain will will just make a lot of promises before he bends you over the hood of his El Camino.
