Vandy did it too.

One day there will be no vestige of whiteness left in whatever the new peoples will call this land.

Everything will be named after anything non white.

White history is a crime don’t ya know.

or it could go the other way folks get mad enough but i doubt it

Well, except for the sports teams.

Most of the time it's the same names.

So King County Washington, named after slaveowning (and possibly homosexual) Vice-President William Rufus DeVane King, was "renamed" after Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King.

Google "Simkins" and you get not just William Stewart Simkins, Florida Klan leader and Professor of Law at UT who was said to have fired the first shot in the American Civil War (on the Confederate side, naturally -- busy fellow), but also Modjeska Monteith Simkins, "an important leader of African American public health reform, social reform and the civil rights movement in South Carolina."

Dig a little deeper and you find Reconstruction state legislator Paris Simkins, the son of Charlotte Simkins, a slave, and her owner Arthur Augustus Simkins, a newspaper publisher and scion of the local planter aristocracy. And you'll find a story about them if you dig hard enough.

Arthur Augustus Simkins was a Democrat and perhaps a relative of Eldred and William. John Augustus Simkins was one of the first Blacks appointed to West Point, and a Republican committeeman. Francis Butler Simkins was president of the Southern Historical Association.

Slaveowners and slaves tended to have the same names, and so do their descendents. There's a slew of Simkins, of all colors and characters, all across the South to name a dormitory after.
