Top 9 Mistakes Of Prepping
http://www.commonfolkusingcommonsense.com/2010/06/07/top-9-mistakes-of-prepping/ ^

1. Following the wrong advice: Many new survivalist become fixated upon the advice given by others. They read the latest preparedness book or blog post and automatically assume the advice given is best them, without considering their individual needs, skill level or location. In order to be self-reliant you need to learn to think for yourself.

2. Not eating what they store: Many new survivalist fill their pantry with unfamiliar foods, thinking they will adapt their diet “when the time comes” this is nonsense. You need to learn how to prepare and use these foods now, so they become a familiar staple.

3. Relying only on their food storage: Many new survivalist think once they have their one year supply of survival foods, that’s the end. Don’t get me wrong, having a deep larder is important, just don’t overlook the possibility of needing to replenish your supplies, and obtaining the skills and resources needed to do that.

4. Not storing enough salt: Many new survivalist fail to store this staple in the quantities needed. Don’t discount the importance of salt. I suggest at least ten pounds of iodized salt per person as a minimum.

5. Building an arsenal: I see this all the time. Many new survivalist spend thousands on weapons and related gear, yet have only a two-week supply food and no water filter. This is stupid. I love guns and gear as much as the next person – but I know food and water are more important to my survival. Sure; we need weapons to protect what we’ve put away, just don’t neglect the other stuff.

6. Relying on bugging out: I’m not a fan of the “grab a bug out bag and head for the hills survival strategy”. In most cases you’re better off staying where you are. Having a bug out bag is a good idea, just don’t make bugging out your only plan or first priority.

7. To much stuff not enough skill: Many new survivalist believe they can be saved though buying. This fantasy has been promoted by self-serving survival gurus for years to fill their pockets with cash. Sure supplies are useful and some are needed – just don’t become dependent on stuff instead develop your skills.

8. Storing only one type of food: More than a few new survivalist have made this mistake. I can’t remember exactly where I read it, I think it was on another survival blog – but the author suggested his readers store hundreds of pounds of wheat and nothing else. While wheat is the backbone of my food storage, storing only one type of food, no matter how versatile is foolish.

9. Not taking care of pet needs: Many new survivalist fail to consider the needs of their pets. If you have pets you must plan for their needs by laying back the necessary supplies to keep them fed and healthy.

What? When the SHTF does that make the Father unable to keep His word and provide for His children?

Circumstances may become dire, but God is still good and in charge.

Now, that being said...nothing wrong with any of the sentiments here on this thread...except the selling of the women into sexual slavery. LOL!

... the time and resources to maintain “pets”.

Dogs and cats are in some cases more than just pets.
Without cats, a rural home will more quickly be overrun with plague and pestilence.
Without dogs, the coyotes, wolves, bear, mountain lions, and other pests and predators will more quickly move in.

Overall, the admonishments in the article are very sensible.

You may be severely disappointed at the end of your days
I will be severely disappointed if the females at my door are not lithe and firm, or are wearing bras. They had the opportunity to prepare, but instead they spent $3000 a year on pedicures and weekly happy hours with their vapid, shallow friends. The thing is, no one can see their feet in my dark dungeon, so all that money spent was moot!

Agree with almost everything you said.....except for the part of bartering women into sexual slavery for supplies and ammo. That I could not do.

If she has no supplies and no worthwhile skills, in a complete collapse that's what she will eventually be.

Another thing about bugging out is that the cops/feds/jackbooted thugs will have check points on all the roads. Better be armed to the teeth when you get to one of those.

That was how my legal immigrant great-grandparents survived the Depression! My grandpa shot rocksalt at shovel leaners one time. They decided to climb the cherry trees and eat the fruit during one of their breaks. That was the fruit that my ancestors used to make their liquor. When Pop told them to stop eating the cherries and get out of the trees, they wouldn’t listen. So, he had no choice but to shoot!

If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

The other option is to have a couple of barrels of water stored in the basement. As long as the barrels are cleaned thoroughly and the water is filtered before you put it in, and there is no way for air to get into the barrel it will keep for quite a while.

Or you can just have a few large water-cooler bottles, which have the advantage of being pre-sealed with good water.

Since you are Biblically astute, you certainly are aware that God commands us to prepare for lean times and store up extra food. To ignore this edict is not only stupid, but goes against the word of God.
Matthew 6:25-26, 31-34 (KJV):
25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

There are simple methods of collecting condensation that will provide water in survival amounts.

Keep in mind that looters can be turned into excellent dog food. Making them into jerky is optional.

Yes, by all means, build an entire doctrine (and compound) out of one verse. LOL

I'm not really arguing against this thread... I think all that is being said is sound advice... but in the end (after I've stocked up and ammo'ed up and watered up) I believe that I will rely on the goodness of God to be the controlling thing in my life even when the SHTF.

Feel free to disagree with me. :>)

Wood gas seems to be a good solution.
Readily available fuel without storage issues and it’s almost immediately available.

Once you have the system built, you can run your generator in less than 15 minutes.

Another thing I’ve thought about is obtaining food without detection. If I fire my rifle to kill an animal, the sound will bring attention to myself. I think I might add a simple fishing rod to my survival stores.

"Take therefore no thought for the morrow... Paul Revere would have been flamed as a naysayer troll and told to go back to Boston"

I bet you can reconcile these.
