Why do you keep posting articles like this? It seems your short time here has been occupied with trying to start fights.
Why? Because people forget what’s going on there. It is still relevant. Especially if you have family from the area.
Yeah, well.. I’m still waiting for my reparations for two centuries of Scots enslavement.
Stinkin’ British.
Why two centuries only? Went upland. Screw the Feds.
No because it stirs up the Catholic haters here that is why. I agree with you but these topics bring out the worst in everyone.
I have family there and it may surprise you but the whole thing was settled on Good Friday 1998. The agreement signed that day was put to the vote by all the people of Ireland, north and south, who overwhelmingly voted to accept the settlement.
Now some tiny micro-groups of dissidents backed by drug money and probably infiltrated by British agents are trying to overthrow that democratically agreed settlement.
So who do you agree with, the vast and overwhelming majority of the Irish people who want peace and the democratic settlement they voted for, or the drug dealing terrorists who want to overturn democracy?
Northern Ireland stayed with they UK by plebiscite. That is the recognized standard then and now. Goons with guns (on either side) will not change that. The PIRA has never agreed to a plebiscite since they know they will lose once again. The PIRA also has interesting radial political roots. You might want to look those up before you act as a cheerleader for them in this forum.
In marching season, tempers run hot. Its mostly been containable until this year. The adults on both sides want this to work. Add the EU and the concept of the national border becomes even less important on that island.
My mother's family is from all over the UK & Ireland, my paternal lineage is Scot. I had family members on both sides of Bloody Sunday. My roots there are probably much deeper than yours as is my contact with those living there. Those of us who understand what is actually going on know this is not political.
