That's a reasonable guess. But if there had been no leak in the drill line, wouldn't that have happened eventually anyway? Same oil from the same hole from the same depleting source of oil = total collapse of the Gulf ocean floor = cataclysmic destruction of this planet.

I really don’t know, all I can say is, if it happens there isn’t much we can do anyway, so I’m not going to run around crying “We are doomed!” On the other hand, I feel a little more uncomfortable having a son who lives in Houston these days. I suspect nothing like that will happen, but I’m sure the people in Pompeii thought nothing was going to happen too! :)
