Mod note:

AP changed the title:

BP, feds clash over reopening capped Gulf oil well

--------------------------------------

Both could be signs there are leaks in the well that's been capped off for three days.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because an announcement about the next steps had not been made yet.

Its been there since early on, and it is way more than a seep most likely.

YE, just ask some of the Coast Guard members that have been out there and who were told not to say anything.

Until they tell me what they mean by “NEAR THE WELL”, I wouldn’t trust them as far as I could throw em.

The last time someone said “NEAR THE WELL” it was 1 1/2 miles.

Did Obama give the “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” call already?

why are they not filling tanker after tanker with oil that can pay for whatever damage was done...this will keep the pressure low while they wait....

why worry about pressure, pump the oil out till they are ready to shoot the concrete and mud into the pressure relief wells...

is the regime against making oil money to pay the fishermen et al who are suffering???

zer0bama is truly a dooooooshbag.

I believe you said something like the following:

He’s such an as*. He really is. He’s such a freak. I KNEW he would try to take credit for it. So when it’s bad, it’s mean ole BP, evil oil, and so on, but some good news and he’s we, us and I. Gawd he makes me sick.

What’s with the US and WE. BP you narcissist moron. You didn’t have anything to do with it you POS>

But maybe I'm not remembering correctly.  LOL

If the leakage is related to the current well wouldn’t the pressure be starting to drop?

Eventually maybe. They have been concerned that the shut-in pressure that they have been monitoring the past 72 hours (6,700+ psi) did not rise as high as expected (8-9,000 psi). That could mean one of two things (and maybe some other harder to define things also). First, the oil reservoir may be depleting or there may be leaks.

Funny thing was Friday.
I was sitting around the breakroom table at work, telling the guys about how Obama was taking credit for the leak being stopped (Obama Takes Credit For Capping The Oil Spill), and mentioning that the last time he did it (After delay, BP restarts 'top kill' effort (Effort failing? Narcissist took credit too early!)) and it started leaking that time.

I told them that as soon as Obama takes credit, it'll blow out again.

I shoulda made it a $$$ bet.

So...explain to me again why they aren’t allowing a controlled flow to surface ships? ——Just to relieve pressure until the relief wells are done?

BP is measuring the pressure in the well, and providing proof by the pressure increasing (very slowly) that they aren't the source of multiple natural leaks in the area, lest they get to dedicate their company simply into a never ending gulf maintenance organization. They are still responsible to their shareholders, not government wanks with their hands out.

Truth be told, this hasn't turned into the environmental disaster some in the administration hoped for, just an economic one as millions avoided the gulf region. The have to justify their crisis and if there's no more oil flowing into the gulf, how will they justify their crap and trade legislation?

The opposite of “clamp it” is Clampett. Let it flow or “there the entire sea floor goes”.

I believe they will need to open the cap back up. May should try to capture until the relief wells are in place.

What I realize is that the oil that was gushing into the Gulf was free flowing, it is now bottled up and other seepage is taking place, precisely because it is being restricted and the pressure is building up.

Hoses can be attached unlike the previous cap, capturing close to 100% of the oil in a controlled manner and loading it on ships.

It makes sense to capture the oil until the relief wells are in place. It’s not worth taking the risk.

Play it safe for now and capture the oil.

I think we are missing the big picture here. The Obama administration ordered BP to open the valves and pollute the gulf for 3 days so they can measure the flow for liability reasons.

Let's see. If I toss a McDonald's burger wrapper out of my car on the highway, I'll get a $1000 fine for littering.
What would you say the fine should be for this? (I'm thinking expulsion of every liberal democrat in power. Forever)

yes, open the valves, get the oil to the ships above, sell oil.

I agree only because I believe it’s the safest thing to do. I don’t care about the oil at this point. I live along the coast and I believe the disaster could become much worse if it’s seeping.

Capture it now but then plug it when the relief wells are finished.

I agree. I'd bleed off the pressure into tankers.

What's to be gained by keeping that huge pressurized reservoir in the ground?

I never understood why they didn’t just try to do that in the first place. If they were as close to having the relief wells in place as they had been saying, why didn’t they just focus on capturing more?

They kept saying the relief wells were ahead of schedule. Then they stopped to put this cap on. It was not worth taking the extra risk. That is unless they have concerns about the relief wells that they haven’t told us about.

Dumb question: Why not connect pipe to the well and relieve the pressure by allowing the oil rise to the surface and into waiting ships?

Still a better question:

Why don't they finish the relief wells?
