23% Say U.S. Government Has the Consent of the Governed

The notion that governments derive their only just authority from the consent of the governed is a foundational principle of the American experiment.

However, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% of voters nationwide believe the federal government today has the consent of the governed. Sixty-two percent (62%) say it does not, and 15% are not sure.

Don't forget the mentally ill and I suspect they even polled the dead. They seem to have a direct line to the as@holes in hell.

This is from Rasmussen so the numbers are probably fairly good. Remember that 23% can be accounted for by Government Employees and those perpetually on the welfare rolls. They consent to the dictator so long as he fills their rice bowl.

I’m sure there have been revolutions started with non-consent higher than 22%

I'm surprosed that someone hasn't pulled this out of the posted article for highlight... Scott Rasmussen observes that the American people are “united in the belief that our political system is broken, that politicians are corrupt and that neither major political party has the answers.” He adds that “the gap between Americans who want to govern themselves and the politicians who want to rule over them may ...be as big today as the gap between the colonies and England during the 18th century.”

Then read the next sentence in the Declaration of Independence:

" ... whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government ..."

There is no question that this government, from the Chief Executive to the Congress, has "become destructive" of the Peoples' rights and liberties. Our rights -- and responsibilities -- are clear.

Some days I wonder what it would be like to be part of that 15% who are not sure; to have a small minority of the population sucking the lifeblood out of your body, and out of the futures of your next several generations, and still be too stupified to notice, or even care when notified.

Is ignorance really bliss?

This specific poll isn’t a question I’ve followed over time, but I’d guess this is the biggest gap. It’s huge.
