Mel Gibson Tirades are the Distilled Violence, Cruelty, & Bigotry of Right-wing Catholic Ideology
Slate ^ | 7/19/10 | Christopher Hitchens

Posted on 07/19/2010 5:44:38 PM PDT by Dr. Scarpetta

Here is a man whose every word and deed is easily explicable once you know the single essential thing about him: He is a member of a fascist splinter group that believes it is the salvation of the Catholic Church.

This schismatic crackpot sect is headed by Mel Gibson's father, Hutton Gibson, a nutty autodidact with a sideline in Holocaust denial.

Like many ultra-conservative Catholics, the Gibsons, père et fils, have never forgiven the Vatican for lifting the charge of deicide against the Jews in 1964.

Less well-remembered, perhaps, is the interview in which he announced that his wife of many years and the mother of his children would not, alas, be able to join him in paradise.

It was not a matter of her moral character. It was simply that she had not seen fit to join the one true church.

Her condemnation, then, was "a pronouncement from the chair."

Gibson has now traded in this long-suffering lady—hopelessly rupturing his sacred marriage vows—for another, younger one, who, to phrase it delicately, was almost certainly not picked for her salient Catholic virtues.

In doing this, he must have had a consciousness, however dim, of having endangered his immortal soul.

Christopher Hitchens can always be counted on the bash the Church for some reason, or the other.

Mel Gibson's problems were created because he chose to REJECT the teachings of Jesus and His Church, instead of follow them.

When I’m looking for an authority on the church, I always go with drunk atheists like Christopher Hitchens.

“Beliefs belong in the church”

is ironically a belief. Why are you expressing it outside of a church?

Mel is just a draft dodger from Peekskill, New York. The old man took the family to the Antipodes to keep them out of Vietnam. It worked. New Zealand and then Australia for Mel.

Understand he's headed back out of town. If he needs to hide out, lemme suggest a return to Peekskill, Nothing ever happens there (or at least since Aaron Burr died) and fewer media people can find it than can find Australia.

BTW, that russki bimbo may look OK at night, but in full sunlight? Mel, it could be an eye problem. I hope the kid is being raised as a Catholic, preferably in an Irish orphanage and laundry, where they understand these things..

Gibsons failings are because he's human and makes incorrect choices. He'll have to deal with it and the consequences.

And then there's this tidbit. Or two.

Oksana Signed, Then Rejected $15 Mil Deal

As a Catholic, I’d say poor Mel has really made a hash of things.

That being said, I must also state I have not met one Catholic who says the crazy things Mel does.

File this under baiting. It’ll get Hitchens on a radio program or two, maybe a followup, because some people will bite.

Understand he's headed back out of town.

No. His publicist denied it. And he's filming right now with Jodie Foster.

Christopher Hitchens’ time is very short. Unless he accepts the grace of Yeshua, he will be in hell soon, and then he will know that he passed up the opportunity to have Christ save him from a place of unimaginable torment.

What does he say about Charlie Sheen and Alec Baldwin and their rants and abuse?

You’d have to be a pretty big ass to post some garbage like this.

Gibson has been under major attack, spiritually and from the Hollywood Left since the Passion of the Christ. I hope he recovers.

I’m thinking not. But the article did say that he filmed in NYC for 2 weeks.

Charlie and Alex are both democraps. Whatever they say about anything, and no matter how they say it, they are giving us meaningful input about life's major issues, allowing us to grow in wisdom.

They were Romnan Catholics once, but are now more like Christian Socialist Hedonist Philosopher Obama Lovers and whatever they do, it is out of Kennedy-like love for us, the little people who must follow them.

Mel? He's just a Right-wing Lunatic.

This has nothing to do with Mel Gibson’s distorted and schismatic version of sedevacatist catholicism, and everything to do with mental illness. Mel displays all the classic symptoms of Biploar type I. In a 2008 documentary, Acting Class of 1977, he first talked about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Late at night, in the fog, filmed from the river, the north Bronx could easily be mistaken for Peekskill, particularly if it is snowing and one looks west.

Because of poor roads, and highly idiosyncratic locals, Peekskill does not get the foreign tourists that it should. It would make a great film location.
