Supreme Court Ruling Seen as Windfall for Firearms Manufacturers, Dealers
After a Supreme Court decision affirming the right to bear arms was handed down in June, the owners of Midwest Sporting Goods, just outside of Chicago, started noticed something any retailer would find encouraging an increasing number of customers.
With Chicago's 28-year ban on handgun ownership rendered unconstitutional, more people were coming into Midwest, in Lyons, Illinois, to exercise their Second Amendment rights, according to Noel, the store's owner. He asked that his last name not be published.
"It's not like sales suddenly went through the roof," he said. "There are still restrictions and waiting periods. But we are anticipating a major increase in sales going forward. It's not going to happen overnight, but it's going to happen."
Others in the industry agree that sales of firearms, particularly pistols and revolvers, could explode.
"Over the long term, as restrictions fall by the wayside, you will see gun sales increase," said Lawrence Keane, general counsel for the Newton, Connecticut-based National Shooting Sports Foundation, a lobbying group representing the nation's 55,000 licensed firearms dealers.
The legal reverberations of the Supreme Court Case, McDonald v. City of Chicago, likely will be felt across the country for years to come, so gun sellers shouldn't be overly fired up just yet.
Violence-plagued Chicago's ban on handguns and automatic weapons was unique in its strictness -- only the District of Columbia had ever attempted to legislate an outright ban on handguns, and that was overturned by the Supreme Court in June 2008. But many states, such as New York, have extremely strict permit laws pertaining to purchasing and carrying firearms.

Question, here. Would a right to bear ammunition be just as strong as bearing arms, for those of us who ever envisioned a scenario of all guns and no ammo?
It should be. “Shall not be abridged” should mean that anything that precludes the proper functioning of the arms is not allowed. Keeping ammunition from the citizens is an obvious abridgement of their right to bear arms.
IMHO, yes, but I'm no lawyer. It might depend on which court gets any such case. Congress has not attacked the Second Amendment in a serious way for years.

It is in New York City, but it is relatively easy to attain a permit in the balance of the state. I received my CCW in 6 weeks. Same time period for Mrs. panax. Full concealed carry, no restrictions.

Having Patronized Midwest over the decades, I can *guess* why sales haven't "went through the roof." If they were human, they'd be 'bi-polar.'
Nothing personal against them but going there can make your head spin. Sometimes they have the lowest prices around - even with the Cook County Taxes, then wham, the next day they're higher than everyone. It doesn't compute.
BUT they are a full service Dealer, with a Range and they hold Firearm Safety Classes and they have a full selection of guns. And had the 8mm Mauser ammo I needed.
They had a branch store close to me which was great and convenient then bingo, all the guns were gone, and only fishing supplies lined the walls. But even then they could still do the whole IL FOID CARD thing right there for you; Form, Picture, and mailing. And the fee was reasonable
This is NOT a negative review of Midwest. Just check pricing first, that's all (like with any store). But if they're $15.00 higher and the next store is 30 miles away, saving that $15.00 isn't exactly time or cost effective.
(yes, I'd buy from Midwest again. And If I lived in Chi, I'd take the Mandatory Safety Classes there.)
Over the last Two Weeks, Three Chicago Police Officers, in Full Uniform, have been Gunned Down In Cold Blood!And, in DAYLIGHT to boot. And one Killing occurred right inside a Chicago Police Station Parking Lot! Now excuse me, BUT! .. if the Chicago Police are not safe from being randomly MURDERED, then; No One Is Safe.
And since that certainly appears to be the case then NOW is the time if there ever was one, for Law Abiding Citizens in Chicago or anywhere, to have their Own Gun, and At All Times. Not just in their house, or just in a bedroom, or locked in a gun safe, but right there in their Belt, Holster or Purse.
Its ironic that since the current regime took power, and a certain person has been selected as US AG - all across the nation - 'Da Boyz In Da Hood' have been on a killing rampage. And for 'some reason' they sure seem to think they can get away with anything. Including Cop Killing. (Maybe the cops 'acted stupidly'?)(/s)

Can you legally carry in NYC? Or is the permit only good in counties that recognize it?
That this was close, and that 4 of the sitting Justices WILL reverse when given a chance, better buy 'em now, and quickly lose them. The government is lying when it says it respects the right of the individual to possess guns.
We can carry concealed in every county in the state except NYC. Some upstate counties will issue only “Target/Hunting” or residence permits. Our county issues full CCW and is recognized statewide. Some lucky guys that know the ‘right’ people can get CCW for NYC.
I also have the FL CCW permit which allows me to carry in 34 states. It’s great when your travel on the road. Different states have different requirements with the FL permit holders. When passing through some states you may have to put you weapon in the glovebox or trunk. These variations are well described when you get your FL package. It’s really worth the $107.00.
