the NAACP isn't the only one speaking out about the video. At the prominent conservative blog RedState, Erick Erickson spoke out in defense of Sherrod in a post called, "Getting scalps at what cost," writing,
Andrew Breitbart promised he would do to the left what the left has been doing to the right for years. He is gathering quite the collection of leftwing scalps and will forever warm the hearts of the right for the ACORN takedown alone. I'm glad he is on our side.
That said, I think Shirley Sherrod has been unfairly characterized as a racist.
In the Breitbart video, we hear Ms. Sherrod discuss meeting with a white farmer who clearly wanted to make sure she knew he was superior to her. And we hear her say she decided she'd help, but only do so much. And we clearly hear her say she decided to send him to his own kind -- a white lawyer.
What we only start to hear before the video ends and where the conversation goes is Ms. Sherrod realizing the issue was not black vs. white, but a matter of the poor. In fact, Ms. Sherrod and the white farmer are now friends. The farmer and his wife are defending Ms. Sherrod for saving their family farm. It seems the video cuts out as Ms. Sherrod is about to make a profound point -- the dynamics of black versus white have changed in the South.
It is refreshing to see Erickson's willingness to be a truth-teller, even if it means letting someone from the other side of the aisle off the hook. One can only hope that if the shoe were on the other foot, liberals would be as intellectually honest.

If that were true the right would have been getting fair treatment a long time ago.
Battles are not won by the mealy mouthed.
She didn’t make the speech 24 years ago, she made it this year. She claims the incident happened 24 years ago.
>> Her speech was about something that happened 24 YEARS AGO!
So she says.
Now: YOU go back and read the post to which I responded, which was #8.
In post #8, the poster clearly claimed that the SPEECH ITSELF was 24 years ago — which is a FALSEHOOD. So I refuted it.
I suggest you learn to pay attention, and read for meaning. Those are useful life skills. ;-)
Zer0’s fault. Talk to the hand.
“He realizes that two wrongs dont make a right. It was something that our mothers would have hopefully taught us.”
Sorry, truly sorry. But the time for this kind of namby pamby thinking is just about past. It’s now fast approaching time for the advice Sean Connery gave in “The Untouchables.” When they come at you with a knife, go after them with a gun.
These leftist totalitarians are bent on destroying America and the Constitution. You can play fair with them if you want, but I’m for reconsidering the options, and real soon, too. As someone famous who I can’t remember once said, “If you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn’t plan very well.” I say, let’s start making our own plans, and give no quarter to the totalitarians.
Informative post. Thanks!!
Lets see how many conservative names we can list if the statement was:
That said, I think ____________________________________ has been unfairly characterized as a racist.
Only if we ever hope to win the country back.
They set the terms, not us.
She probably did get a raw deal. But that doesn’t change the fact that under the exact same situation a white person would have suffered the exact same fate. What’s good for the goose is also good for the gander.
The spin is that it was long ago (like Byrd) and she learned from her mistakes and helped the hatemongering whitey in the end. No sale here - treating a customer differently because of his race is, like, racist, and only libs and rats (like Byrd) seem to get to play that redemption card.
‘SHirley Sherrod is just a prop. The NAACP is the racist elephant in the living room we all know its there but we never talk about them. If nothing else, Breitbarts work may illuminate this band of racists and make it easier to show them for what they are.’
Bears repeating.
She alleged he was trying to show he was superior to her. Folks with a chip on their shoulder always do.
She debated how much to help him, given his whiteness. She decided to send him to someone of “his own kind.”
This is racist speech and attitude, caught on video. Would she like me to enact of policy of sending all my black customers to “one of their own kind????”
The fact that ultimately the family was helped is great, but that is not the issue. The racist attitude of a government employee - and that fact that she glories in it - and the fact that the racists in attendance thought it was just wonderful - these are the issues.
Racism for me but not for thee.
The farmer was going to lose his farm. She never cared about the farmer, even though it was her job to help him. Instead she somehow thought she was getting dissed. No surprise. Paranoia runs deep. Anger runs deep.
According to the Biographical Dictionary of the Left, Long tenure in office has also been characteristic of the NAACPs presidentsall white men: Moorfield Story (1910-1915), Joel Springarn (1915-1940), Arthur Springarn (1940-1966), and since 1966, Kivie Kaplan.
Since the Biographical Dictionary was published in 1969, obviously some things have changed.
However, it is interesting to note how long the organization had white presidents, almost as if the radicals didnt trust the blacks to take the organization in the proper direction (to the left).
“The more important point is did she act on those racist thoughts? Apparently not.”
She decided to send him to someone “of his own kind.” Is that not racist? Is that how we work in this country?
“To look at all human beings as either prey or predator?”
No, we should demand that all human beings be treated with respect, not be disrespected or differently treated due to their race. Whatever their race might be.
Also, we need to call out hypocrisy loud and clear.
The left should feel free to call out any hypocrisy on our part, as well. I myself would appreciate it.
You mean there’s no such thing as the National Association for the Advancement of White People? You don’t say.
Your point is well taken, the very existence of the NAACP is racist. As is La Raza, as is the KKK.
Yes, sorry, she made the speech in March about events 24 years ago.
>> However, it is interesting to note how long the organization had white presidents, almost as if the radicals didnt trust the blacks to take the organization in the proper direction (to the left).
A less cynical explanation might be that from its inception and for many years, NAACP was a truly benevolent institution founded by white people who cared about the lot of blacks, and since then was co-opted and turned into its present den of racists.
But enough of that less cynical hypothetical stuff. Hardened cynic that I am, I tend to agree with YOUR explanation. :-)
“The Dums and their fellow travelers believe once a racist ALWAYS a racist. ‘
El Wrongo. Look at Senator Byrd, formerly a high exalted cyclops, for crying out loud.
