Bolden really seems to have no sense of national pride. No notion that America is an extraordinary country and that we can do extraordinary things. Bolden goes on to explain that the U.S. alone could never go to Mars, as if it were just obvious a half century ago that we could go to the moon. He articulates a defeatist vision of America so different from John F. Kennedy speaking at Rice University in 1962:

One listens to this interview and remembering this is the United States of America we are talking about, one is tempted to say the piece is an absolutely nutty story, one wants to say it is ridiculous, even bizarre, a fraud.
Then one realizes it is real, it is where we have traveled in the last 48 years, and one shudders.
Kennedy today would be savaged in the main stream media for being too conservative.
Please tell me who in this administration does have any national pride?

I believe taking people out of their historical context leads to flawed comparisons.
Put differently, "Kennedy today" would be totally different, not far from his young brother, and ... loved by the media.
Okay, fair enough. My meaning was that a politician who holds the same beliefs as John F. Kennedy would have be treated like Sarah Palin. If you gave me a politician who 1) stood up to international communist aggression, 2) enacted tax cuts, and 3) believed in the inherent greatness of American exceptionalism, would be hated by the MSM and be loved by Freepers. We could use a politician like that. Democrats deify him, but they don’t subscribe to his philosophy. JFK would be a Republican today. I stand to be corrected, but exactly what did he stand for that would be considered liberal now? The irony is that his 1960 opponent, (the hated) Richard Nixon, enacted OSHA and price controls and co-existence with the communists. The libs should love him.

Don't get me wrong, I understand and agree with your point.
Its just that I hear this comparison often, and it has the side effect of elevating JFK to some heights of conservatism which he does not deserve.
While he and his party did adopt some conservative positions, he himself was an immoral man, more than likely with no religious foundation for his beliefs. He probably would have been just as gung-ho for socialized medicine as his brother, had he still lived.
Bolden earned his wings, but I’ll ask what no one else has so far, namely, why is it that blacks who have risen to the top in their professions (which they could never do in a major Communist or Islamic/Arab country), denigrate America who gave them the chance to achieve this success?
Moslems would put them in chains and the Kremlin is lilly white. Peking ain’t heavy with brothers!. None in No. Korea or Communist Vietnam, and damned few in Cuba. Hugo doesn’t seem to have many in his little dictatorship in Venezuela either. None in El Salvador, Ecuador or Nicaragua.
