A Year After Honeymoon Ends, Whites, Men and Independents Desert Obama (Quinnipiac Poll bad news)
Wall Street Journal ^ | July 21, 2010 | Peter A. Brown

Posted on 07/21/2010 5:33:06 AM PDT by Zakeet

It was a year ago this month that President Barack Obama began losing voters. In the 12 months since, he has had legislative victories that appear – especially in the case of health care – to have cost him large amounts of both political capital and political support.

A comparison of the public’s views of him then and now tells us a great deal about the shape of American politics and how difficult it is for any president, even one as politically gifted as Barack Obama, to surmount the nation’s deep political and ideological divisions.

[Snip]

On Election Day 2008, much was made of the increased turnout that Mr. Obama inspired among young voters and African-Americans, and to be sure that fattened his margin. But he won the White House because, the exit polling showed, he got 49% of men, 43% of whites and 52% of independents. Each of these three groups individually makes up a larger share of the electorate than blacks and young people combined.

In July 2009, President Obama had actually grown that support so that he was getting a thumbs-up job approval from 54% of men, 51% of whites and 52% of independents.

But today, the numbers for those three groups show just how far he has fallen. He gets a positive job approval from just 37% of whites, 38% of independents and 39% of men – a roughly 30% drop in all three groups in his support.

[Snip]

All of which suggests the last year has convinced an awful lot of the folks who hadn’t voted Democratic for president in some time before supporting President Obama to rethink their politics with an eye toward returning to their political roots.

Typical lefty responses I often hear from those who claim to be much more enlightened, progressive and sophisticated in their thought process on my many disagree with Obama:

1)Ignorant electorate vote against their own economic interests due to Fox news propaganda

2) Middle America is stupid

3) The economy is too complex for the individual to make their own choices

4) Health care in Canada works wonderfully and it’s privately run(actual quote)

Question :Why do Canadians come to the USA for surgery??/

Answer—Because of demographics in rural area where their are not enough doctors.

Question: Why do so many Canadians from Toronto come to the USA for surgery then???

Answer: Blank stare

5) Governments job is too make everything fair and that is what Obama is doing

6) They oppose Obama because he is black

7) The stimulus worked because GNP is up(actual quote and ignored any productivity gains)

8) Suspending income taxes for a year instead of using a stimulus would not work because it’s not fair to those who don’t pay taxes and the rich would just save their money rather then spend it.

It’s FUN to discuss political issues with lefties and I encourage EVERYONE to engage them.

It must be nice to be a professional pollster. You don't have to understand what causes an event.

LBJ's 1964 victory was because of JFK's assassination less than a year before - not because LBJ was such a remarkable president.

WJC’s 1968 victory was, to a significant degree, a response to the Republicans 1994 victories. The American public likes a divided government where no one political party controls everything.

BHOI’s 2009 victory was the result of many things. The most important was the concerted effort by the national media to get a know nothing, done nothing, snake oil salesman president.

BTW the real meaning of “margin of error” is the ability of the survey to repeat the results. It is an internal check of the poll’s process NOT the accuracy of the poll.

He began losing voters a year ago--do you remember the instance? At the end of his "news" conference, where the media kissed his butt for an hour, he said the police in Cambridge "acted stupidly". Even some blacks (though a small number, admittedly) began to walk away--I witnessed it.

Of course, he still has a 95% support among the media and according to Gallup an 85% support among African-Americans.

“.....he has had legislative victories that appear – especially in the case of health care – to have cost him large amounts of both political capital and political support.”

So, How are they “victories” when the results are losses? Seems when losers win we all lose.

“.....even one as politically gifted as Barack Obama.....”

I guess instead of Bullshit we must now use the term “politically gifted”?

“....He gets a positive job approval from just 37% of whites, 38% of independents and 39% of men – a roughly 30% drop in all three groups in his support.”

That’s still way too many morons for a November house cleaning.

Truth is, he’s demonstrated time and again a remarkable political tone-deafness.

It is not just that the mythical "honeymoon" is over...it is that most of America wants a DIVORCE.

And, Obama is not "gifted politically," but, he is a highly gifted, practiced, and accomplished liar, just as most narcissists, and quite capable of fooling those he draws into his fog. At least for a while.

I think he began to lose voters when he started the, "We won," song and dance.

You don't alienate your opposition after the election. You try to get some of them on board, because you're not going to keep all of your supporters.

Richard Nixon taught me that lesson in 1968.

He made this incredibly gracious acceptance speech, welcoming the opposition. I thought, "We won! What's he doing this for?"

Then I came to realize that he needed to at least act like he was president of all the people because he had other battles coming up.

I only know of one who will admit it, he is a former Public School principal...yes, he's white, yes, he's an idiot. His love for the 0 is exceeded only by his hate for Palin.

He has 95% support of the media because there is no media, they are all propagandists.

One thing to remember, when someone you supported turns in a direction you don't like. . . you start searching for real answers. Those answers are found with Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, Glenn Beck, etc. More and more people who supported Obama and voted for him are now looking in the other direction. They don't always agree 100%, but they start to listen and learn. It's a total revelation. I know, because in 1998 I was one of them. : )

Doesn’t there ever come a time when we don’t need to pass laws and start repealing old ones?

Complete BS. These aren't political and ideological divisions - it's the division between Americans and a marxist leftist dictator-wannabe.

I believe that the majority of Obama voters by in large still have their head way up their A!! and can’t see the forest for the trees.

Maybe because they are benefiting financially and don’t want to see or hear or they are just too stupid to grasp any measure of reality.
