All that recent talk about "Whale Wars" had me thinking. Now, bear in mind that the author is leftist puke who writes for NYT, Mother Jones, Rolling Stone, Village Voice, etc. so his journalistic integrity is dubious at best. Some of the commenters on the site take him to task for his obvious slant, but the heart of his argument is that few people in the above nations can stand whale meat and that the industry, such as it is, is being kept alive on taxpayer life support.

>> the industry, such as it is, is being kept alive on taxpayer life support

If that’s the criteria for shutting down an industry, then the solar power/wind power/wave power industries all need to go bye-bye.

Add in the ethanol fuel industry. No taxpayer subsidy, no profit in ethanol, no ethanol industry.

"No One Eats Whales. Why Does Anyone Kill Them?"

Well, under Obama's energy program electricity prices have "necessarily sky-rocketed" so I've converted to whale oil for heat and light. It saves me a bundle.

Whales are the locus of all evil in the universe.

Whales must be destroyed.

All else is irrelevant.

There’s absolutely no point in fighting the lefties in the vanishingly rare situations in which they’re right and the whole concept of whaling in today’s world is idiotic and indefensible.

In the 60s, Japan exported canned whale to the USA. My dad used to buy it all the time. In BBQ sauce. Very tasty.

The reason that the Japanese keep killing Whales is to provide the (unlicensed) Captain Watson of the Sea Shepards with an antagonist for the Whale Wars TV show. There is big money in TV shows.

Are you kidding??

Have you ever heard a whale song? It is worthless music with no real rhythm, tempo, lyrics, etc.

For this reason alone, their numbers should be limited!

Plus, they are big game and trophies for hunters.

Of course, we should harvest them sustainably...

“No One Eats Whales. Why Does Anyone Kill Them? “

Interesting.

So the Japanese, the Norwegians, and the Inuit and the Yupik are “no one”?

Have they got the memo yet do you think?

a 2009 study by the Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society

It is possible there was a slight bias in this report.

I admit I did not read the article but the headline is full of BS. I just, last night, watched a Japanese TV show that airs here in Hawaii and on it some reporters went to a restaurant in Japan where they specialized in whale meat dinners. It showed them cooking it and serving it and people eating it.

Jeez, you would think O would want the whaling industry going because it is an alternative fuel. End pumping gas in the Caribbean, fire up the whaling boats now!

Can you see Sarah with a harpoon gun? Heck momma bears (polar bears) eat whale meat.
