Is this man Obama's worst nightmare?
World Net Daily ^ | July 21, 2010 | Chelsea Schiling

He could be President Obama's worst nightmare – a business mastermind, a natural problem solver and a black man of "substance" who says he would "take the race card off the table" in a challenge against Obama as the GOP presidential candidate in 2012.

Has Obama met his match?

"We need a realistic candidate to run on the Republican ticket who can beat Barack Obama – not just beat the Democrats," Herman Cain, an Atlanta radio talk-show host, former CEO of Godfather's Pizza and 2004 Senate seeker, told WND. "We've also got to beat Barack Obama."

He added, "Obama is a master of rhetoric. He is a master of deceptive language. And any white candidate who runs against him will be up against the race card. I take the race card off the table."

Cain, a devout Christian, emphasized he is "prayerfully considering" a 2012 bid for the GOP nomination.

His supporters have launched a "Draft Herman Cain for President 2012" effort to develop teams of volunteers and build a grass-roots base for a presidential campaign. "That's been growing like gangbusters," Cain said. "That's the sort of thing I'll be looking at in the next couple of months in making this decision."

I love Herman Cain, but, I hate to think that the only way we can get a Black man out of office is to have to run another Black man (or woman) against him. Not that I have a problem with them being "Black" but just that America has come to the place where "race" is the defining factor for everything.
What say ye, Freepers?

Herman Cain is the man.

I agree with you about the race card issue.

But Cain could be the right man for the job. He is a constitutionalist. That he also just so happens to be black doesn't have to be the primary issue. And when the media pr reps start making it about race, we will be ready.

We need to STOP playing the tit for tat SKIN COLOR game.

It’s NOT working.

Recall Powell. Colin Powel was pushe dup the ladder SOLEY because of his SKIN COLOR. Look how that turned out. We must STOP this. We MUST put someone up based on MERIT and ABILITY.

I don’t know this man Cain, but IF he is QUALIFIED and CAN DO THE JOB, then consider him but I fear there is a BACK LASH going on. I fear that because he is BLACK, voters will NOT TRUST HIM. I fear that because he is BLACK people won’t vote for him BECAUSE of his SKIN COLOR. Obama has set RACE RELATIONS back 100 years due to HIS RACISt GAMES.

We couldn’t even get the Republican “Old Boys” in GA to support the Herminator in his senate run. Instead, we got “Hound Dawg” Johnny as a Senator. Do you remember who his first Photo Op was with?....Ted Kennedy. I puked for a week!

I love Herman Cain, and would crawl over broken glass for a chance to vote for him, but there is no way that he gets any National support from the Republicans.

I am with you on all counts.

As far as I am concerned, there are only two races.

Human.

NASCAR.

What we really need to see is the SRM as it currently exists relegated to irrelevence.

I’d vote for Herman Cain in heartbeat but we have way too many RINO’s in GOP leadership who are much more interested in ‘reaching across the aisle’ with the left then actually fighting them.

Real conservatives like Mr Cain frighten GOP leadership.

I hear ya!

We are becoming a RACIST POLITICAL PARTY!

It's crazy.

The GOP is putting itself in a box by selecting by SKIN COLOR. The GOP is doing what the Demoncrats are doing - playing the RACE CARD by looking more closely at SKIN COLOR. It hasn't worked well with Steele either. Steele should be out on his arse! But no, we keep hearing that we need a BLACK MAN to avoid be “racist”. Geesh! How are we better than Demoncrats that constantly play the race card when it is convenient?

We need to have a candidate that is ABOVE this juvenile race crap. We need a candidate to STAND UP on MERIT and address this racist crap and that candidate doesn't have to be BLACK.

I want MERIT.
I want ABILITY.
I want BRAINS.
I want LEADERSHIP.
I want someone I can RESPECT.
I want someone I can TRUST.
I want someone that is PROVEN.
I want someone I IDENTIFY with when it comes to IDEOLOGY and putting this IDEOLOGY into PRACTICE.
I DO NOT care what COLOR they are.

I'd like to see a candidate that if totally covered up, and you were not able to SEE their SKIN COLOR, you'd love them for WHO they are INSIDE. It's the “content of their character and NOT the color of their skin” that has you embracing them.

I fear this potential candidate, Cain, is an opportunist that is USING HIS SKIN COLOR to get brownie points. I am uneasy with this.

I also wonder if the base is LEARY of BLCAK condidates because to people like Colin Powell. He was BLACK. Would their be a backlash on SKIN COLOR? You have to ask yourself that. They get in and then show their true colors. Condi Rice wasn’t like that but who knows about Cain? What do we really know about him? Other than he is black?

I love Sarah Palin, but realistically, now, don't ya think we need a VP for Mr. Cain who is a female, but has a Hispanic surname. That's a sure winner; doncha think? (/Sarc)

“...and a black man of ‘substance’”

Not a qualifier, in my opinion, and more likely a detractor come 2012. We’ve gone the Affirmative Action route (No offense intended to black leaders who have earned the right to be our leaders, like Herman Cain), and it has been tremendously disappointing. That disappointment is going to have a backlash, especially against a black conservative who will automatically draw the ire of the Democratic Party’s reparation blacks. Our first black president needed to be a great man and president, and maybe Herman Cain would have been that, but we got Obamao, and mistakes like him have consequences.

Forget Palin. There is no way in hell, she can win. Bristol and Levi are busily plotting their tabloid reality show ... . We really do not need another dysfunctional family running the country. Get over her!

Let Sarah Palin, scream and yell about how horrible things are. Let her exchange barbs with Levi and others she disagrees with but let return dignity and decorum back to the GOP. Sarah is not the one to do this. Let her be the tabloid, polarizing political person but this is not the kind of person who can win and deliver. It is time to STOP the denial of this. There is too much at stake.

That is my concern too.

A black conservative will bring out the slurs liberals always have and with conservatives there will be DISTRUST. Conservatives have been snookered enough with phony BLACK conservatives. It will put the base in the uncomfortable position of accusing THEM of being “racist” if they don't vote for a man of COLOR. As I said in another reply, we really need someone who has an established track record and perhaps NOT BLACK to get genuine conservatives out to vote.

America has come to the place where "race" is the defining factor for everything.

No, its just one of the defining factors. There is also sexual orientation and religious belief that are obvious factors in measuring one's ability to govern. (/sarc)
