Ford reaping solid profits after turnaround

DEARBORN, Mich. — Four years ago, Ford mortgaged everything down to the blue oval logo to save itself. Now, even as Americans remain skittish about the economy, it's reaping big rewards and stealing business from stumbling rivals.

Ford said Friday that it made $2.6 billion from April through June, its fifth straight quarterly profit. The company, which reported record losses in 2008, now predicts it will end 2011 with more cash than debt.

With its two longtime Detroit rivals still finding their way after spending time in bankruptcy last year, Ford, which never took government bailout money, extended its success story.

By the way, the Chevy dealer up the road from me, next door to a Nissan place, is an obvious energy hog at night after business hours. Nissan has a discreet low level of lot lighting at those times; Chevy has it looking like daylight with the lot locked and nobody able to get in. What Would Al Gore Do?

I’m not thrilled with buying a UAW car, but if I ever buy another American car it will be a Ford. GM and Chrysler stole from me and from my children when they accepted the bailout, and I will never forgive or forget. They are dead to me.

Nobody wants to buy an Obama Motors car. GM and Chrysler are up the creek without a paddle!

Bailout saved Ford because many people like me, who have jobs and money, will no longer buy from Government Motors. I had been a loyal GM/Ford man all my life. Now I wouldn’t buy a GM if you put a gun to my head. And I know several people who feel the same. All of them, producers.

Must be. According to every mechanic in my family they say buy a Nissan or a Toyota. If you go big three it’s Chevy, Dodge or Ford in that order but not reccomended.

I agree completely. I will never buy a GM or Chrysler product again for the rest of my life. Government owned motor companies must die.

LOL

People won't buy "Obama Motors" products as the Unions were appeased by using TAXPAYER MONEY, and Ford (and the Imports) are now reaping the backlash effect.

Even the trumped-up attempt to damage Toyota didn't cause a rush to Obama Motors.

My next car or truck will absolutely be "ABOM" (ANYTHING but Obama Motors).

I own a Chevy Suburban that I bought in 2001. It’s also my last Chevy. I doubt that GM could do anything that would ever win me back. I don’t suffer Communists well.

I will no longer buy Chevy (GM) or Dodge (Chrysler) since they accepted the Gov't (future taxpayer) bailout cash. The responsible action would have been to tear up their UAW agreements and sell assets, go into receivership if necessary.

I would LOVE a suburban 2500 Diesel.

Funny thing, Government Motors no longer makes them.

And the 1500 Flex Fuel is $60,000

I think I will take a pass...

When I was test driving the Edge, the Ford dealer said every new customer tells them they have left government motors to buy Ford.
