A customs declaration form filled out by Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong was allegedly stolen by a U.S. customs worker and his friend, who together attempted to sell it at auction, federal prosecutors announced July 20 — the 41st anniversary of the moonwalker's historic first "small step" on the lunar surface
If found guilty of stealing and conveying an official record of the United States, the two men could each face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the United States Attorney's Office.

This was the trip that Armstrong, Cernan, Young, Vietnam Ace Steve Ritchie, SR-71 test pilot Bob Gililand and David Hartman took to SWA to boost morale of troops, but Obama would not let them get anywhere near Irag or Afghanistan because he was afriad they would get media coverage for their objecting to his plans to kill NASA and his pro-Islam policies in general.

Meaning no disrespect to Neil Armstrong, how much was his signature realistically worth? $250? $2500? How many people would gamble on a gain of $2500 against a loss that was 100 times greater PLUS 10 years in jail?
Mythbusters did a good show on debunking the "filmed in a hollywood studio" conspiracy theory... But even without that, it seems to me that it would be quite simple to verify: Simply aim a telescope at the landing sites and look! After all, none of the landings took place on the "dark side" of the moon: So each landing site can be seen from the earth. Given a moderately sized telescope, you should be able to see the descent stage of the lunar lander, as well as anything else left there by the astronauts, like flags, experimental hardware (like the laser reflectors) and the lunar rovers.

It takes a lot more than a “moderately sized telescope”, unless you mean one in low lunar orbit. The thing ain’t much bigger than a delivery truck.

Thanks. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, so a full-time worker at minimum wage would earn about $15,000. Presumably a customs worker earns more than minimum wage: let’s assume twice the minimum. Thus, 10 years in jail would represent the loss of $300K in income for such an individual. But most people also value their freedom, so let’s suppose each hour’s loss of freedom alone (leaving aside any earnings potential) is equivalent in value to the minimum wage. In that case, 10 years loss of freedom’ is worth another $150K.
So this custom worker is trading a $27K gain against a $650K loss ($250K fine plus $300K lost earnings plus $150 loss in freedom). Unless his chances of getting caught were less than 4.2%, it would be irrational to try this stunt. It would be obvious at a public auction that what was being sold was a public document. Did this guy really think that chances were less than 4.2% that someone at the auction wouldn’t recognize this and blow the whistle on him?
In this Obama economy, desperation perhaps knows no bounds. But here’s a guy who still had a job—a government job at that (i.e., one from which it would be extremely hard to be fired except for gross incompetence or criminal activity). But perhaps it is naive of me to be surprised at the stupidity of some federal workers.
I supervise about twenty guys at work. There are actually a few (who are of the lower end of the educational ladder) young men who won't enroll in our 401k. With a 5% match! They say they can't afford it. I keep telling them that all they have to contribute is the cost of a case of beer and a large pizza each week. They still won't listen.

I infer they’d rather have beer and a large pizza weekly now and forego that opportunity when they’re retired (if they ever can afford to retire).
IIRC Armstrong had a barber that decided to sell locks of his hair and that ended the relationship rapidly. I think he sued the barber too.
That's about the size of it.
Armstrong did sue, after the barber sold the lock of hair for $3000. The story I heard was that as a settlement, the barber had to donate $3000 to one of Armstrong’s charities.
Let's revisit this after the government steals everyone's 401k and then see who the smart people were.
