Rep. Charles Rangel says it would be unpatriotic of him to resign amid ethics scandal

Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel said Saturday it would be unpatriotic to resign rather than fight his pending ethics charges - despite a call that he do so to save the Democratic party.

"Well, it wouldn't be the American thing to do \[to step aside\]. I think I owe it to the process to find out first what the investigative committee finds out," Rangel told reporters after speaking at Harlem Hospital.

The 80-year-old legendary lawmaker is accused of failing to pay taxes, abusing rent-control rules and trading donations for favors. A public federal trial on Thursday will determine his fate after a two year investigation.

...Joe Biden thinks it's "patriotic" to pay higher taxes; Rangel thinks it's patriotic to cheat on his taxes and stay on office; the Libs yelped all through the Bush years about how protesting was "patriotic" (when they were doing it). Is there anything to them that isn't patriotic? Except patriotism, of course...

Allright, Charlie. We’ll give you a break on the patriotism if you’ll give us a break and resign.

Yes, you’ve certainly served your country “patriotcally” as a corrupt big spending member of Congress

To paraphase, with “patriots” like you, Charlie, who needs enemies?

It would be unpatriotic to resign, but Hari-Kari is not yet socially acceptable in this country.

LMAO! Rangel wants to test the wind and see if they will actually convict him, trust me if he has one hint he could be convicted he will resign at light speed.

By resigning he keeps benefits and pension.

Agree...I never thought I would say this: “Go, Charlie, Go! Fight till the bitter end!”

Photobucket It seems that old Charlie is ALSO exempt from the REST of the rules he and his cronies have imposed on us. A 7 minute video concerning our current situation and why we MUST find our way out of it.

“Well, it wouldn't be the American thing to do \[to step aside\].”

Not quite, dirtbag*. It wouldn't be the Democrat thing to do .... to step aside out of shame and for the good of the country and your party. The Democrat thing to do is to hold on, bargain for all you can get by threatening to expose your party members, betray your country, and worse until the marshals drag you away kicking and screaming.

* and I mean that in the nicest possible, non-racist way.

It would be racist too.

Imagine, kicking a Hispafrican-American out of office...

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

You can tell from Rangel's comments about 'not knowing what they found" that he's hoping that Obama and Pelosi won't throw him under the proverbial bus and his 'legendary' status will ultimately save him. He may be right. Remember who controls congress - Democrats. Sure, Obama wouldn't care if old Charlie Rangel went down but the party does, even though Rangle is a liability right now and, at 80, finishing up his 20th term, he likely won't be seeking re-election in November, but you never know. After all, he's a Democrat.
