Woman 2, thugs 0 after home invasion(OK)
WND ^ | 24 July, 2008 | Bob Unruh

One gun isn't enough.

That was what Linda Smith (a pseudonym) was thinking after two thugs broke into her Oklahoma apartment. One was holding a weapon (she initially thought it was a knife but it turned out to be a screwdriver) at her throat, and the other was pacing back and forth while holding her purse and demanding her money and valuables. She screamed, and was told if she screamed again, she'd be dead.

She was doing as police recommend in robberies – comply with a robber's demands. But her Lady Smith & Wesson .38 special, which she carries by permit, was hidden in her purse – and the purse was being held by one of the attackers.

Then the situation, suddenly, got much, much worse: One of the robbers demanded that she take off her clothes.

"Come on, what are you waiting for," he told her as he started to yank on her sweatpants, trying to take them off.

My brother (a Moonbat) once read story about some young kid who shot his brother with a gun he had found. The father in the story was moaning "I wish I'd never bought that gun."

My brother said, "See? They're nothing but trouble! Has anyone ever said 'Thank goodness I had a gun with me'? Anyone? ANYONE? No! You don't need them! They just cause trouble!"

He stopped being so vocal about it after I gave him about 100 article showing people saving themselves by having access to guns. It wasn't hard. But, Liberals really seem oblivious to the fact that it's a tough world out there and having some ability to protect yourself is a good thing. Liberals all think the government will always arrive and do it for you.

I hope Oklahoma has enacted their own “castle doctrine” to prevent the surviving manure pile or his family from suing the victim. If this were mAssachusetts, she’d be in jail by now.

Isn’t it funny how when a conservative doesn’t like guns, (s)he doesn’t own a gun. When a liberal doesn’t like guns, they try to pass laws to prevent those who obey laws from having guns.

“She recalled with clarity the five shots, including those in which she picked out the attackers even though her boyfriend, black like the attackers, was struggling with them. He had been visiting and came in from the next room after the shots rang out.

He reported to Smith later that one of the attackers actually had a headlock on him when she fired, knocking the assailant off of him.

He had jumped into Smith’s defense as both attackers were beating Smith’s face and head, trying to knock her out to break her “death grip” on the weapon.”

Excellent ending to what could've been a tragic ending to two good people (her and her boyfriend).

This line bugs me, though:

Smith, an Endowment member of the National Rifle Association, said she's carried a gun for almost half a decade, but never dreamed she'd be in a situation where she'd have to use it to defend her life.

Of course she "dreamed" she'd be in a situation like that. That's why she got the training and the permit. She probably doubted she'd be in the situation, but she obviously knew it was, at least, a slim possibility.

Yeah, it seems nit-picky, but here's my point: people need to examine the potentials in life-- both the positives and the negatives. This woman did-- and it quite possibly saved her life, and that of her boyfriend.

“The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

...exactly! The police is one way to stop an attacker. Waiting 20 minutes for their arrival with one dead on the floor is the other.

Smart to say, even if patently false. A prosecutor on an anti-gun jihad will portray the shooter as a Rambo-wannabe just itching to kill the poor misunderstood honor student who just happened to be in the wrong place.

Your statement reminded me of my friend "Red". Red got in a bar fight about 15 years ago, he came out on top in it but was arrested. I went to his trial, the plea deal had been made, he was supposed to be fined and given probation.

Red was before the judge and the judge told him, "I understand you were angry and hit him and knocked him to the floor but why did you have to hit him again"? Red's answer, "He was still twitchin' your honor". Red served two weeks in the county jail for that remark.

And it's interesting that this is the opposite of a common Liberal theme on abortion: "Don't like abortion? Don't have one."

Liberalism is a culture of death. Almost all of their positions (gun control, abortion, homosexuality, defense spending cuts, etc.) are likely to result in unnecessary deaths. They seem to constantly choose policies as if the extermination of humanity were their goal.

Satan's followers.

Red served two weeks in the county jail for that remark.

Thus the third leg of "Shoot, shovel, shut up." Then, too, Red wasn't getting the sympathy due a woman facing rape and possibly murder, in her own home, from strangers with a combined strength maybe 20x hers.

Of course she had “dreamed” of such a situation, but she was 100% correct to say she hadn’t. Otherwise some leftdolt of a prosecutor (if there is one) could latch onto her statement as premeditation and try to use that to get around the castle doctrine and stand your ground laws in Oklahoma. Now, it probably wouldn’t work, but defending yourself in such a trial can be ruinous.

I was the victim of a home invasion a few years back. Now my pistol is where I am day or night. If I go down I’m either taking someone down with me or messing up their life so bad they’ll wish I’d killed them.

That calls to mind the comments made by Dick Armey, after it became clear that Bill Clinton DID "have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky". Armey said that if he'd done something like that, he'd have found himself in a pool of blood on the floor, with Mrs. Armey standing above him muttering, "how do you reload this damn thing!"

I thought to myself, I really need to have a firearm for my home, and directly on my person."

She's right here. Guns in a purse or in a car do absolutely no good what so ever if the purse isn't in hand or the person is out of the car. On the person is the surest way to have it ready for use. She got lucky the criminals were so stupid as to let her go to her purse when they could have simply looked for themselves.

As you know well, there is such an anti-gun hysteria whipped up by the lib press that these kind of stories never get printed. All you read about, concerning hand-guns, is some innocent person, especially a child, accidentally getting shot by one. The average person knows little about the cases like this one where the victim got immediate justice against two violent criminals.

This is the very reason why I have always recommended that women, especially, carry revolvers. They can be more reliably be fired from within bags and garments. Not only are the advantages of this obvious and reasonable, they are thoroughly well demonstrated by anecdotes like this. I HATE it when some fake expert recommends that women carry full-sized large bore automatics and "dress for success" (that is, dress like Pacific trappers year round).

I like revolvers too, but isn’t there just as much chance of an external moving part getting hung up on something as would be the case with a semi-automatic?

I still carry revolvers most of the time for the reasons you mention. Can be fired easily from a pocket and are very reliable. No stove pipes or jams with a revolver. I do have two autos that I sometimes carry but neither is a big bore. I highly recommend revolvers for anyone who is new to the shooting game and wants to get a CCW, easier to learn, harder to reload, yes, but usually you aren't going to shoot 15 times in a gun fight anyway.Speed loaders make reloading easier and with practice amost as fast as shoving in a new mag.
